DK, my dad said this with Matt Murray a couple years ago and now it’s with Jarry you have to score at least 4 goals to have a chance of winning. But also I feel like this flame out is worse than Murray’s. DK do you feel the same way?

I despise complaining about officiating because it stinks of being a loser,but how can you make a borderline call late in a tight game in a game with very few power plays,then not call a clear penalty in OT. way to go nhl. This is why we are considered the 4th sport

The goaltender: The third goal was great passing but maybe also stoppable. The second goal was a clear result of a horrific clear.

This has become a broken record, the same script over and over…….this team despite the roster has played with bad habits and seriously has sputtered for several years. Their streaks are legendary at this stage, catch fire for 7 games and then skid for 7. All this excitement about how they improved, yet here we sit at below 500. How is Sullivan never held accountable? We have watched this dog and pony show for years now, this is a results based BUSINESS, how does he keep his job! I have watched Bunting over the last ten games or so become the spark plug, working his ass off and coming up with huge goals, yet he didn't see OT last night. Why has he not traded places with Rust on line one….Bunting and Sid have some great chemistry going…….and I think last night showed they don't miss Malkin all that much, before that, was Letang missed that much? They have four guys really going, Sid, Rakell, Bunting, and Karlsson…..even Grezleck, they need help! Different game….same script! Dear god, that was Columbus…..what is McDavid, Drasaitl and the Oilers going to do with the Penguins, 5-1, 6-2?

DK, regarding todays question: I think, on a macro level, it’s worth considering the fact that they went to the shootout in the first place as failure or lack of success in overtime. They had their chance in OT last night, and they weren’t bad in OT. But I think what the questioner was getting at is that going to a shootout means they failed in overtime — although perhaps not as much of a failure as an OT loss would constitute

Two things can be true at the same time: our goaltenders have allowed the first goal on the first shot a handful of times this season and this team also allows a high-danger scoring chance for an opponents first scoring opportunity ever. single. game.
This team is lethargic to start every game. They're lethargic after they score a goal. They're lethargic when they have a multi goal lead. It's getting real old, real fast.
Columbus' goalie kept them in it, Jarry took us out of it. Goal 2-3 were easily on him just lazy from him on both those goals. I mossed the first goal it happened so quick which also seems to be a theme with jarry
Bloomquist needs to be playing in the NHL to further his development, everyone knows hes as good as anyone at the AHL level. Hes certainly a better option then jarry
It's January, time for the trade vultures to pick our team apart. Do you ever think we have the capacity of not trading our future away? Nobody wants what we don't like. I hate the excuse of trading a guy with one year left and the Pens justifying it by saying we wouldn't be able to sign. To me, a trade means loss of talent rather than a gain in talent. All it is is a salary dump. Deals are rare.
I wouldn't want to coach up someone like Sid. However. it's just as necessary as coaching up the new guys. Maybe we are stale and the old dogs need to learn some new tricks.

Great perspective on Sully asking the greatest player of this generation 😅😅!!! I was actually thinking right before you mentioned it DK, why in the hell do players do the whole slow down so much on shootouts!?! Does this happen in the game…..NO!!! Now, with Sid, I must respectively disagree with you DK, because, well, come on….he's Sid. And saying that what I mean is that he is so skilled that he'd be the one player if I were Sully that I would leave completely alone on this issue. Sid had probably studied the goalie pregame, possibly watched videos,learned weaknesses of the goalie, etc so for Sid to fly down game speed or slow it completely down…..trust in Sid. The 5 hole can be difficult to stop in situations, but against Jarry, it seems to be a guaranteed goal

I don’t think anyone has the right to tell Sid how to score goals. That’s like telling MJ how to score…! Sid not only knows how to score he makes average players look great because he is so good. Like Sully says get to the net and Sid will find you. Or get open and be ready for a a one timer.
I agree DK, They makes some points and by the end of the game it's tied for over time or shoot out. They give up points and don't make any when they need them the most. I hope they fix it soon. Thank you DK, Awesome.
