Jarry was 'soft'?… all three goals were redirect/shot pass variety. If he stops them, then he was great. But he is not soft for allowing them. 'Soft' is when a goalie gets beat from shots he is square facing.
They "ease" into games the same way they "ease" into the game post scoring a goal with a lead. They need to realize they don't scare anyone anymore. The league is young and resilient. You weather the storm after a goal and you have a chance. They respond QUICKLY. When subjected to sustained effort they get worn down. To be clear I'm talking about THIS era of player. Not the Penguins. This kind of poor effort happens when they are officially back in the hunt. They same thing happened last year post guentzel trade tantrum. They are the most un-motivated team we will ever see.
Third line "big boys" played well, Hayes was good in center positions, he was able to build the game, create opportunities. Puljujärvi had couple of the good scoring change. O Connor working well in forecheking. In this line was energy. If Puljujärvi is out of 12 or more games, you can't assume he doesn't make mistakes. Thats true that first line can't score all goals. That's why the second and third lines need to be given more playing time. Sullivan kept the the first inside too often after taking the lead 3:1. Maybe he though that first line would score more. But Columbus' second goal came from the Crosby line and was quite soft. Share more minutes, but fresh legs on the ice. Pittsburgh goaltending is bit out of passion. No sparks in eyes. Look the Elviz, always in fire and hot. I Think we could say that basically he brought victory to Bluejackets. He save % is usually not sou high, but he can make right saves right moment. Yesterday stop one Rakell shot with shoulder in very important moment and shootout he was like wall, no change.
current pens are unable to close out games , jarrys contract is the only reason he is still here as he has no trade value without the pens retaining significant salary which I never agree with !
My response to the “well do you have an answer” would be “no, i’m not the coach of the team, that’s who i’m talking to right?” and then i would promptly lose my credentials.
It is time to rebuild. The team has a little success and everyone forgets where this team is at. Sell high on players. Bunting, Rakell, Karlsson…. They have to figure out how to change the culture which means moving on from Sullivan.
The shots on goal going from average 35-40 SOG last year to 15-20 SOG this year should be studied. Not by the fans; We know why. FSG & Dubas.
If you choose to not change you choose to accept the way things are. Pens can’t handle playing contenders. I don’t care if they forced overtime. They had how many blown leads this year? Missed playoffs by how many points last year? Enough is enough. Boring, inept, lifeless, FSG really injected their corporate dread into this team.

We're slowly approaching the point where it would just be better to accept what you are and shoot for a very high draft pick

Trade Marcus Pettersson, Anthony Beauvillier, Jesse Puljujarvi, Sam Poulin, Jack St Ivany, DOC, and Ryan Graves for Trevor Zegras.
