Goalies get paid less because they aren’t good for nearly as long and if they aren’t starting for you they are useless. At least with your top line center as he gets older can move to a second line and could even contribute as a 3rd liner where you are getting something.
So to pay a goalie over 8 years when by year 4 he’s not going to be able to be a starter anymore.
How much of that 88million would he have to give away to NY for taxes tho.., say he signs with VGK where Nevada has no state taxes…. I’d say Preds but they have two solid tendies… maybe Stars? Panthers and Lightning have tendies locked up,,, I’d look for him to sign with a team that has lower taxes than playing in NYC

I would trade him for a boatload. The Rangers can get a potential kings ransom for him alone. Ask the Leafs this year about their newly signed stud number 1 goalie. How’s that going? Sheshertkin can end up the same.
I’m in Colo… I’ve been saying for years to trade mikko for a top tier goalie. Of course I want Igor.. not likely.. but somehow Roy was traded here.. not impossible. But yes, the Avs are instantly cup contender with a great net. And with Val, Drouin, lecky, and Gabe? Yep. Crushing… and I for sure take Drouin and Val over mikko… but we do need a top 3 net front for a trade, we dontctrade mikko sideways. Just stupid.. I could see a great very complicated trade tho for Sam g, Manson, mikko for a huge upgrade in 2nd line d guys… that would also be nutty..

12.5 is too much for any goalie. Prime Hasek or Roy in todays league might be worth that but that’s even cutting it close
