They’re still in a playoff spot, but they haven’t been dominant as they were in previous seasons.

  1. Your Caps note does ad intrigue to the picture. They've shown they can be dominant in stretches

  2. I’m a devils fan and Carolina is definitely a team that can win the cup. Their structure is solid, and I personally think they will go deep into the playoffs again this year. But, I can say that if they play the devils in the playoffs this year we will be more competitive against them than the last time we played them in the playoffs.

  3. Thanks for the video! Canes have had a good team overall but the ups and downs are killing the fans. Top ten team, one point back of sixth overall. The Met is a tough division at the upper end with the third an fourth place teams in the league.

  4. The one thing I know from reading THG comments on videos all sports fans are stressed out from their teams 🥲

  5. As a canes fan, I'm okay with a couple of down years. Our top 6 is still pretty young and has a lot of room to grow before they're really in their "prime" in their late 20's early 30's. Recent play aside, this season has been a pleasant surprise considering some people thought they wouldn't make the playoffs.

  6. It was the back to back panthers game last month this streak started

The team misses a high caliber offensive d man, Aho and Svech never big game player in playoff certainly hurt…goalie is less of a problem when your goals and hits die out in those key games

  7. Canes are hopefully new year new team into 2025 for the most part. Slavin always a savage. Aho line needs to get going , Svech needs to svech.

Necas hopefully could get going like the beginning of the year.

Mainly PK is a backup goalie, I’m not a fan of Pillow man Soft-Freddy. Although he has good #’s.

  8. To me, this team has basically been the best-case scenario considering who actually departed in free agency. They made a bunch of smart signings of role players who were seamless systematic fits and have, as a result, only dropped off a small amount, talent-wise, from last season. With the impending arrival of Nikishin and Morrow on ELCs next season, there's a huge opportunity next season to add top-six forward talent and open yet another massive contention window.

  9. Personally, I think Andersen is dead weight. Say what you want about his in-season play, but he was a big factor in the post-season fizzle-out last year. Kochetkov is an unproven playoff goalie simply because – much to the chagrin of myself and others – Canes coaching stuck with Andersen the entire 2024 playoffs with the exception of a couple of games…Yes, the scoring got anemic, but they also started giving up too many cheap goals. Bad combination…I hate to say it, but I think they're out in the first round again this year – especially if they draw one of the Florida teams…

  10. Last season felt like "cup or bust", at first i thought okey, its busted, probably a lot of stuff is gonna happen, the team is gonna get into some kind of little rebuilding process for a few years, and that would've been alright, it didnt happen when it could the most, so we start again. At the start of the season again, i had them as a team which could compete, could, or better, should still get into the playoff, so i was happy seeing them like that. First couple of months were probably way too good, and i was thinking, wait, is this team really that good? But last couple of games, they are just the same canes as years beforee. Can win anything, can lose anything. Feel like nothing has changed, and yet again, this is gonna be team that will dissapoint come playoff, no matter who will get into the team at the trade deadline. Its just way too inconsistent for me to see them as cup contender anymore, something still needs to change, deep in the team.

  11. As a Canes fan its rough with this team… We are absolutely incredible some nights but other nights its just meh – leading to lost games we should win. Come playoff time we are flat – as if we killed ourselves to get there and are beat up and gassed when its playoff time. I love Brindy – BUT I think he needs to work on managing the energy of this team. They clearly want to play hard for him but often to hard to the point that it hurts them in some games they go into cold and worn from working to hard in previous games. This team just needs to get into the playoffs without drama and push hard when they get there with the energy they saved up.

Svech needs confidence it seems – he needs to make an appointment with Necas's therapist so he can get his head right and be the player he can be all the time. When that happens this team will truly become unstoppable.

Shout out to Jack Roslovic – he has been surprisingly AWESOME for us and is now a key piece for us.

  12. They have looked tired after that energetic burst to start the season. They're thin at goalie, Drury being out has hurt the PK and the grind game from the bottom 6. But they'll be a solid 4-5 seed come playoff time. This was supposed to be a bit of a retool year anyway. Nikishin comes in next year and they clear some big salary cap hits (Orlov/Burns/Anderson add up to almost 17 million combined). This team could land a big fish forward and a top pair D and have enough left over for a veteran backup goalie, and be right back in the hunt as a high-end team next year.

  13. Rod Brind’Amour is such an excellent coach. Because of him, the Canes have always been competitive when he’s behind the bench.

  14. Haven’t seen any mention here of Roddy being the fastest coach in NHL history to 300 wins.

  15. For a weird sort of mini rebuild year we're doing a lot better than expected. The new guys have fit really well into our system, Necas was let off Rod's leash and we saw what he can do earlier in the season, I expect us to:

Drop Burns (Bare min take him off the PP) I love him but he's old, and there have been some games where he is far too slow to keep up.
Drop Andersen, love him as well but he's the Christian McCaffery of goaltenders

With them gone that'll be an extra $11,000,000-ish cap space? If my math is right. Might have borked that.

Orlov needs to stick around, no complaints about him.

I like Kochetkov but he's not at the level we need yet, he's a goalie with a knife and if he's gonna play like that he needs a machete.
Hopefully we can rustle up a non-AHL goalie. Tulksy has proven he can get some crazy value out of less considered players.

I really want Svech to produce more, he's got talent but it's hard to see it sometimes.

Jarvis has been a good all around player, very good game sense/knowing where he needs to be, but hasn't scored as much as I'd like. (Tbf he was injured early on) He's getting some REALLY good money so hopefully he pops off a bit more. (3 assists against NJ so I think he's getting back into gear)

KK is KK and its nice when he's on but we're paying him good money for him to be – decent -.

  16. i feel the same way, i think it's odd that they would slow down in the season, i also feel like they are going to make a serious playoff splash this time and it's going to be a morale boost when they still make it to the post season. generally speaking, i think the top 6 don't fit a grinder style of hockey, especially Necas. But I think everyone in the bottom 6 are absolute grinders, maybe less so than last year, but my goodness Staal's line can be a real force on the ice. I just wish there was a way that the team could benefit those top 6 forwards, whatever it is that makes them play so inconsistent with scoring needs to be addressed. It's the straw that breaks the camel's back year in and year out. They can't keep playing the traditional Canes system, they need an offensive coach to grow.

It's not that they needed Guentzel, he was great and all, but even Guentzel didn't understand how to score with us it looked awkward for him. No one on our team has the Offensive IQ even close to Sid, I will always think of Sid as a tier 1 playmaker. So this is an offensive coaches job to fix, it requires redefining the focus for that forward group. And we have talent, maybe sufficient enough talent to win the cup, perhaps the defense first mindset is what has kept us from reaching our prime?

  17. I see them winning the Cup this year just to avoid having it be 20 years since the first one. How's that for scientific prognostication? 🤯 LET'S GO CANES!

  18. You must go back to November and that really bad schedule to see when the Canes started to get inconsistent. They had a bad road game Vs the Avs. KK had a bad give away but in my coaches opinion was not th worst Canes player in that game. Rod (who I love as a coach) switched the lines up. For the next several games he had KK on the 4th line and Drury at 2C. This is when the inconsistency started. Drury is a great defensive center but he is NOT a 2C! Necas who was hot at the time has not been the same since. I would say the Canes have not been the same. KK is back at 2C but only due to Drury getting injured. Rod tried Drury at 2C in the second round of the playoffs Vs the Rangers. It didn't work then either! Than Tulsky called up Jost from the Wolves to play center with the absents of Drury. Jost was playing wing at the time and only had 4 points. Rod wanted to call up Ryan Suzuky who was playing Center and at the time had 19 points. 2G 17A. Suzuki was /is leading the Wolves in points, Assists, PP points, and +/-. I feel Tulky and Rod are not on the same page as Rod and Don were. We all remember it was Tulky who wanted DeAngelo and Orlov to play together due to his analytic projections. We all know how that went. Tulsky needs to let RBA do his thing and give him the players he wants. Call up's should be both coach and GM together. We all know how much Tulsky loves Jost for some reason. He tried to convince Wadell to trade for him last year at the deadline. A few things need to remain in place.
Aho needs to get going. But he needs constant wingers. Too much juggling. Keep Roslivic and Jarvis on his wings, Keep KK at 2C with Necas and Svech or Robinson. Keep Carrier with Staal and Martinook. I would love to see Suzuki called up to play with Blake and Svech. Suzuki is a playmaker much like Terevainen was. He is dishing great passes to the young guys in the A like mad. Blake is a finisher. Svech is the power forward. That line would be a true third line or even second line. The Staal line is a checking line lets face it. That should be the fourth line. Right now the Canes have 2 fourth lines. 4A and 4B. The top center, Aho needs to find his game.

  19. There’s no true star on this team. Canes fans don’t want to hear it, but Svech is highly overrated. He’s guaranteed one penalty a game. Furthermore, he has no chemistry with Aho. KK is not a true 2C and should be traded for whatever value we can get. Burns needs to retire. Orlov, unless you sign him for no more than about 3 mil, I say let him walk (especially since Nikishin is on the way). Freddy also needs to go, he’s always injured and PK has been thrown into the fire this season because of it. To say our window is closed is an over estimate. Sure, we’re not expecting anything this season. However, with the changes that are sure to come next season, I’m confident that window will be back open for a long period of time.

  20. Can Kochetkov get hot in the playoffs? That's the real question. Can a 2C be had for a reasonable rate at the deadline? If kooch can bring some cam ward magic back to Raleigh, it's an easy cup.

  21. Svechnikov still hasn't blossomed. Aho is an inconsistent goal scorer. Where'd Necas go?….. Jarvis is moved around so much he has zero idea who his linemates are night to night. They are not going to win with Tokarski as the goalie.

  22. Carolina needs to be less predictable especially in their d zone break outs. Too many d and neutral zone TOs leaving goalies out to dry.

  23. This season was supposed to be a right off season to allow our pipeline to mature, but I believe that mentality was with GMDW at helm.

Now? GMET is proving that he can deliver a more than palatable team in front of a crowd.

I saw the same analogy with the Caps. I had said that the Caps went too hard during the season and that they should hold back just a little to get into that mix. I have felt the same with the Canes. I hope the depth is there.

    RBA for HHoF.

Nikishin in for the end of the season and all of next. Svech and PK as ambassadors for him. (And he won't have to give part of his salary away to sign former NHLers)

  24. Bottom line is the Canes are going nowhere in the postseason once again with the lackluster collection of goaltenders and centers they currently have on the roster. This team continues to lack size, physicality, sandpaper, and testacles so it'll be another early exit from the playoffs in May. If they get out of the first round it'll be shocking.

  25. My gf gifted us glass seats vs the Golden Knights, so excited to see that up close and personal.

  26. Guentzel might be injured right now, but they should have tried to keep him, because like you said towards the end, not sure they have a guy who can score 40 goals, I think Guentzel with a lot of AAA playmakers like Carolina has, is still able to do it, I can't predict that he wouldn't be injured had they managed to sign him in the summer or before, but in all cases, they lack a true goal scorer, Necas is a great player but I think the best we will see from him is around 35 goals, it looks like he cannot play a whole season like the outrageous way he did in the first couple months of the year. Svechnikov I guess could be a 40+ goal scorer, but he tends to go on cold streaks too often despite having a great precise shot, he doesn't use it nearly often enough!
