They have 5 LD and 2 RD on current roster
Please tell in your idiot savant brain why they would trade Savard as long as they are in the mix?
The guy to trade out is Matheson both in what you can get as a return as well as overall fit of pairings
He should not be playing the right side especially not with Hutson
Ghule Carrier looks good
Ghule is a better defender
Hutson is a better play generator ( has better defensive iQ even though he lacks size )
Savard is the number 1 PK and On the ice in the last minute to close out a game

tampa guy here. MTL (along with EDM) are the 2 canadian-based teams i like to see do well when they can.
the recent (4W, 2L) road trip has been huge, to build upon what MTL has done in december. laine thus far has been a blessing for MTL's PP. he's near the top of the charts in the league for PPG's given how much time he's missed. the guys seem to like him, he seems to like the city and team.
carrier has been a excellent veteran acquistion on your blueline. dobes in net has been a postitve. there's been lots of good things happening for MTL lately.
i don't know if MTL can sustain this level of play enough to grab a p-off spot. things have changed for better for MTL in 3-4 weeks, and things can go the other way just as fast. injuries can happen, and there's a lot of teams to leapfrog to even catch a wildcard spot. in the ATL, to grab 1 of 3 places, you got BOS, TBL, FLA and TOR to deal with, plus OTT is making some noise.
the way i see it is as such: MTL has one of the best prospects pool in the league already, heading into a bad draft year. if they can make a go of it, i would much rather for those young players to get more winning experience, even IF that does not mean making the playoffs (thus picking 12-16).
lastly, as an outsider, i am intrigued to see ivan demidov and michael hage getting involved with the canadiens in the next few years to come.
enjoy the rest of the season habs folks, and whatever happens, happens. MTL, whether they make the p-off's or not, i expect them to be a royal pain in the ass to beat every night. the effort and desire to compete is there, and that's all you can ask for in year 4 of the rebuild.

Ask Mark Stone, Jack Eichel and Nikita Kucherov about load management. It's already a thing in the NHL.
I fully agree with arpon , if your not getting great returns on trading vets ,keep em . Arber plays his best hockey along side savard . Resign Evans 4x4mil or 5×3.5mil .
