One thing I will correct you on, the Preds haven’t been defensively oriented since John Hynes was our coach. We definitely are trying to play a more offensive game under Bruno, we just suck
Well he could become a really good offensive defencemen, he might just be a late bloomer.
As for the Mtl Canadiens, with Lane Hutson so young doing what he does and David Reinbacher coming in a year or 2, Justin Barron just didn't have a place anymore.
And we are still sidelining Struble.
And it's not mentioning (the never mentionned) Konyushkov which might show up in 2-3 years.
If he becomes what people though he could be, in 2-3 years it would look like a trade to benefit both teams at that time.
All in all, I wish him good luck.
Barron is no defenseman. The huge change in the Habs is getting rid of Barron and Primeau. Barron doesn't seem to think like a defensive player. He is a defenseman that plays like he is scared of his own shadow. Glad he is gone.
Barron sounds like a very nice kid and I hope he becomes that 50 point offensive defenseman that us habs fans were hoping for in Nashville. Hopefully with all the veterans in Nashville, he’ll be able to learn from them. Good luck JB!
Josi is welcome in Montreal. We can give them Matheson.
Don’t forget the $2mm in cap space gained by Nashville, with a deep future bench on the blue line. If the young D-men coming up from Milwaukee prove worthy of the NHL, like Stasney and Wilsby this year, and molendyk/gibson next year, I see Barron as a stop gap until these guys are NHL ready. Nashville can invest that cap space gain into other positions. Finally, with 3 1st round picks in this years draft, its on Barron to compete to stay with the club. I think this was more about economics than the players for Nashville on this specific trade. -avid Preds fan, even with this years disappointing start to the season…
If they don't want to develop Barron into what he's supposed to be, an offensive D, then they got him for no reason. Placing Luke Schenn above him is r word. They're forgetting he's had 7 goals 6 assists in 48 games last season, was only sent down so that him and Xhekaj would have equal time spent in the AHL and NHL, and Xhekaj needed to improve more first according to MSL/Hughes last season. Now the Sheriff is more solid defensively, we're fine and he wasn't getting the minutes he was getting last season, where he finished -3 too, not bad for playing half the season in one of the team that allowed the most goals in 23-24. Just the same as his first season where he didn't play enough so that it would count as his rookie season in 22-23, he had an even better points per game ratio than last year (15 pts in 39 games and still just -2), he was very confident then, and being solid defensively. Last season he was doing questionable moves at times defensively, hence why they decided to split him and Xhekaj's time with the club as we had even more of a defenseman overload last year, which was good, we could test a bunch and select the best. Last year Barron got more ice time as he got time on the PP due to his shot being one of the hardest among the dman we had, so he would have been better to end up in a team where he could have been top 4, probably would have in Anaheim or NY Rangers.
I wish him the best, because he's better than his bro Morgan, and Nashville should just send him to the AHL so he can get minutes if they aren't happy with him and if Josi cannot tolerate to have another offensive Dman in his team but him, which is immature for a veteran like him but w/e.
Del Gaizo getting translated to from Gaizo is pretty funny.
I understand Josi's frustration. As a new guy, Barron should be proving he's a coachable player and most importantly, a team player. However, Nashville's roster should result in a top 5 team and Stanley cup contenders, but they are sitting at the bottom. I'm a habs fan, and we were sitting ducks until Laine, Carrier (and arguably Dobes) came into the team and turned us around. They helped the moral, confidence, and overall competence of the Habs and we've looked better than we have in YEARS. Idk if it'll last, but my point is Nashville is a dumpster fire, with one of the worst talent/performance ratio I've ever seen in my life. I'm not saying Barron coming in with a new approach will turn the team around, or even work, but why the hell not try? Cuz what y'all were doing clearly isn't working.
