Man I love Jeff. Guy is an absolute gem. What a cold open too.
Rick Nash, Thornton, Heatley weren't skill players? Getzlaf and Perry were the most skilled players Canada had in 2010? Richards and Morrow were dominant. How is 2014 explained using his logic? I guess in his world Mike Green was on at least one Team Canada.
Just another writer trying to impose his ideology in the face of reality. But his wish has almost come true. All of the cool things about hockey are almost gone.

Why did Rempe get an 8 game suspension, but the slew foot was only 3 games?
It's absurd to dismiss social media as "just a bunch of nuts". Most of the people commenting on the Canucks (or any other team) are fans who would be saying the exact same things to their buddies if social media didn't exist. The comments are not new, they're just broadcast publicly now.
Where’s the part about the Zach Benson play and Jonathan Toews (mentioned in the description but didn’t hear it in the show)? Glad to have you back on the air, Jeff!

Jeff needs to dial back the pretentious way he comes off. His spittin chiclets interview was especially unbearable. Smart guy with some good takes, but pompous and loves the sound of his own voice.
Ovechkin probably could’ve had more team success if he would’ve put as much effort into the defensive part of the game as he did scoring goals. Great goal scorer for sure, (standing stationary for whole 2 mins of every PP, waiting for a pass helps) and he’s slowly gotten better defensively, but if the Caps didn’t get an expansion team that was playing way above their abilities in 2018 playoffs as their opponents in the finals, good chance Ovechkin doesn’t get even the one cup.
Being the greatest goal scorer while also being a defensive liability for your team while on the ice had to be frustrating for his teammates and coaches. Especially when he’s wearing the C. And I’ll always maintain that he’s never been captain material. You can’t have your captain floating in the D zone, or hanging out near center ice waiting for a stretch pass for a breakaway or dogging it on a back check. Watch his effort and speed when he’s on a partial or full on breakaway, vs a back check to negate an odd man rush.
A lot of wasted opportunities as Caps management put good teams around him many years, that were capable of deep cup runs.
Man, I really hate correcting Mr. Burke because he's so awesome and almost always right, but maybe this can help bring the issue to light.
Americans, even most hockey fans, don't follow the World Jrs. It's really an unknown event because it's just so impossible to watch for the average fan. It's broadcasted on the NHL Network, which is really only on the subpar options from cable or streaming outfits. The IIHF/NHL needs to get this broadcasted on ESPN+ so it can at least be seen easier. People are still going to need to know about it to speak it out, but right now, those who know of it are basically looking for an illegal stream to watch, which isn't easy to do… I know as I look, but YEARS later, I don't have a reliable option.

Whoever the quoted pro scout was should be fired… his diagnosis was an absolute failure and I don't think he knows how hockey teams work
The best Canada rosters were filled with role players, not "skill" players… the precise problem is that Canada brought too many guys who are the stars of their teams and who would be top 2 or 3 players on every other team (outside the US) in the tournament. It's absolute hogwash that this was even discussed, let alone entertained. They did not have any support players… a team full of captains without any sailors or navigators.
This team did not bring the country's best goal scorers to the tournament. I think of Justin Poirier who's absolutely destroying the Q in terms of scoring goals, reg season and playoffs. No, instead, it brought "skill". It did not bring the country's best power forwards to the tournament; instead, it brought "skill". It did not bring the country's best power play quarterback to the tournament… instead, it brought "size and skill" on defense.
Do the research… look up all the leading goal getters, top 5 in every league, forward and defense, and ignore the 20 year olds… and you will, the ONLY player they brought is Sam Dickinson, who's playing on a stacked team.
Michael Misa, Zayne Parekh, Justin Poirier, Beckett Sennecke, Liam Greentree, all ignored… QMJHL was basically utterly ignored other than what… two picks? OHL… Ontario, most cocky Canadian province, thinks they're the center of the universe. And what do people discuss? ANYTHING BUT… QMJHL represents a region larger than most countries playing this tournament, and they're apparently not allowed to play for their countries because the cocky Ontarians are too busy drowning in a pond while chasing their own reflection.
… here we go with the "dinosaurs" crap…
Has absolutely nothing to do with anything. The problem was stupidity, not archaism.
If you don't learn from the older guys, you're going to repeat every one of their errors.

Matthew Cattaford wasn’t played enough! He’s a very skilled player who remained in the shadows of the other players ! Not okay. None the less, he’s doing well with Rimouski snd part of Halifax Mooseheads final vs Quebec Remparts 2023 .He is a Vegas prospect for their future. Sad to see plus other players sitting home not even there to help Team Canada win
