I was going to post on PuckPedia a couple of weeks ago of a trade with Vancouver using Rielly with $1.5 retained (making him an ELITE 2nd pair LHD behind Hughes) and getting Soucy, Sherwood, a 2nd pick and a 4th. The values can be adjusted. Christmas season hit and I have been offline.

Mitch Marner for Elias Pettersson? So get the center you need for the winger you can't afford. He has three 30 goal season and that 100 point season. The Canucks are then left trying to sign him and Boeser and a few lesser lights with maybe 12.5 million in space, or they will have given up their first line center for nothing.
Miller only makes 8 million for five more years. He's 31. The CAP problems for the Canucks would be worse. Maybe the Leafs retain 3 million.
If vancouver doesn't make a deal they are in a much better cap space.

pair Reilly with the highest rated defender in the NHL and Reilly will still be too small, too docile,
too defensively inept and make blunders when forechecked by the top forwards in our division.
Fans love him but he’s very overrated and for 7.5 takes a fraction of the abuse “the core 4” receive while being directly responsible for so
many casual errrors at a key position
Pettersson makes no sense, too expensive AND I'm not trading Marner
They can have robertson and riley + a pick for him, but hell no to marner.

Marner is going to walk in free agency. Move him out and at the very least get a few first round picks
Pettersson has not played well enough for a trade for Marner. May be Pettersson for Robertson, Holmberg and a draft player, Vancouver will have to retain 50% of his salary.

SORRY Boys the Leafs don't need another Wimpy player like Nylander, we could take JT Miller but only if he is healthy, but forget about trading Marner, you don't trade a 100 point player, you build around him! Where as Nylander is not a 200 foot player, not worth the money they are paying him and they should be unloading him for Crosby, twice the player as Nylander is and knows how to win, which is what TORONTO needs!!!

The most logical trade partner is Philadelphia hands down if you're looking for Center that has term and you can fit into the cap situation

Is JT Miller worth Nick Robertson and Morgan Riley and the second round draft pick. That may work, so it's not totally impossible, but forget about the center Pedersen guy. Mitch Marner is going nowhere he will resign.
