Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Wednesday that the team has acquired defenseman Alexandre Carrier from the Nashville Predators in exchange for defenseman Justin Barron.

Carrier played 28 games with the Predators this season, registering seven points (1G, 6A) in addition to serving 12 penalty minutes. The Quebec native has logged an average of 20:08 of ice time per game since the beginning of the season, including 2:44 on the penalty kill—second most on the Predators. Since the start of his career, the 5-foot-11, 174 lb rearguard has appeared in 245 NHL games with the Predators, totaling 11 goals and 58 assists.

Barron scored one goal in 17 games with the Canadiens in 2024-25, his fourth season with the organization. The 23-year-old defenseman produced 31 points (13G, 18A) over 109 games with Montreal since he was acquired via trade in 2021-22.

  1. No one is saying what the best poutine is because any one of us could say La Banquise or Poutineville, but the universally correct answer is that it's the small greasy hole in the wall establishment closest to where you live, whether that be a bellpro, valentine, lafleur, or whatever no name shop you're lucky enough to know about, it is fundamentally a dirty working class food, and we're all better served remembering the fact that it's food from our roots, and our roots are in the dirt.

  2. It would be cool to have a reliable stay at home defence man in the spirit of Josh Gorges. I think it’s a bonus that he’s a francophone.
I like the length of this video. I feel hockey junkie usually hits the sweet spot in terms of show length. At a certain point your breakfast is finished and you have to head off to work. 😊
Keep up the great work whiskey lung.

  3. Barron was not progressing and it is clear other young defenseman were better. That the Predators believe in his "potential" is the reason we got a NHLer in the trade.
I wish we had addressed our backup goalie situation but is it good to have a defensive defenceman to help somewhat protect the goaltenders.
I live in Windsor, home of the best pizza in North America (I was going to say the world but want to be modest) but a wasteland for poutine so I have nothing.

  4. No doubt, they needed help on the right badly. Just too bad we didn’t keep Honda Civic. Take him over Carrier any day.

Edit: go to any mom and pop shop in QC for good poutine. Stay away from huge franchises and you’ll probably get a great poutine.

  5. You look at the difference Barron and Hutson thinks the game and anticipates the play. I always felt the NHL was too fast for Barron

  6. Small player, seems like a desperate move to get a better righty dee, not so sure I like this move.

  7. I had a feeling that a trade involving Barron was going to happen eventually. TY Justin and all the best to you. Welcome home Alex Carrier and also wish him the best. He will certainly upgrade our D corps. Now for the hot topic: POUTINE: I just can't eat that. I think its a terrible thing to do to a French Fry. Don't get me wrong I like sauce, curd cheese and fries as long as they are kept apart. So no, I don't have a favorite Poutine so cheers for the poutine lovers out there!!!

  8. Barron, like many on the team, when they first made their debut on the ice, showed, lots of potential, but then later fall off and show seemingly little interest to step up their game. Barron, has been disappointing the last few seasons. I hope he is able to find what he needs in Nashville.

  9. I'll be real. I liked Barron last year. He was a big dude who looked like he had good upside. Well this year that's changed. Idk why he just seems so bleh on the ice, he get tossed around. I feel this is gonna benefit the habs honestly. Also Jarry smoked meat poutine goes hard.

  10. The team has acquired:
    THE most precious asset
    The most desirable asset
    To trade at the deadline.
Experienced, RHD who can move a puck …
Hello Nucks, Oil, Avs, Stars, Rangers and ya the Bruins and Sens.
    Let the bidding begin.
Maybe add a wing or a centre …
    Who/what have you got?
    What can we use?

  11. Well I guess I have to say I never saw this coming. We have gotten rid of quite a few "prospect" defensemen this year for little return. The addition of Carrier a 28 year old cheap right shot defenseman doesn't feel like any kind of upgrade. This seems like ground work for a David Savard trade.
I'm not a Barron fan but I did like Kovacevic who was a good 26 year old inexpensive defenseman who didn't make mistakes. It feels we are adding a Brett Kulak for too much money. Hopefully he's better defensively than Brett Kulak. .
I liked Harris among our prospects but not you know, a lot.
Carriere makes $3.75 million a year???
Lord so our defense prospects now after Lane Hutson are Kaden Guhle, the injured David Reinbacher, the problematic Logan Mailloux, Jayden Struble, who I kind of like, I'm not sure how I keep forgetting him XHekaJ, Adam Engstrom, William Trudeau, Bogdun Konyushkov, Daniil Sobolov
None of this gives me big three vibes , or even one really good complete defenseman.

  12. saw it comign as well but not for our lil rhd newfy! i thought dvo would have gone back. maybe evans.

  13. Don't have any real hate on for Barron as a person, but he's who we traded Lekky for and for that return we got hosed. No malice, but not sad in the least to see him go. * That being said, I believe the draft pick we got with that resulted in Lane Hutson so all worked out there if it's true.

  14. I would have traded Barron for a few broken sticks and a bucket of pucks, super happy about the trade 🙂 We get a Quebecois in exchange, hungry for success, let's goooo!

  15. Looks like a good trade. Barron has another opportunity in the NHL and Montreal gets another Dman to look at. Maybe a stopgap but also he may prove to be just what the team needs. Time will tell.

  16. You said it mistakes and turnovers me and my family her said he needed to go last year he had his moments but his game is stale we know what we’re getting with carrier

  17. I felt like Barron was starting to get a bit more physical and improving leading up to the Truba hit, which I think killed any momentum he had moving forward. I wouldn’t be surprised is he gets going in a year or so. I wish him the best. I’m excited for this trade, sounds like what we need. As for Poutine, I like patati patata, simple and not like ever other poutine out there. A.A. In saint Henri, I think dissolves 4 whole chickens into his gravy. And for that dark gravy and some of the freshest cheese curds I’ve had lately, Greenspot diner is underrated!

  18. 02:26 – Uhm, not to crap on the guy but honestly, everything he has touched for the past couple of months has turned to tchit, estsi.
Joyeux Noel a twer aussi mon Kent!! WOOOOOOO!!! 🥳🥳🥳

  19. I'm always so skeptical of Quebec born players on the team since Drouin, Matheson being an exception until recently. IT seems like gets too 'cozy' and it doesn't work out. Prove me wrong Carrier. Please. Edit: Poutine preference: 1) Fres: Triple dunked fries, home cut 2) Gravy: Thick, beefy, lots of block pepper 3) Cheese: Mozzarella, curds, light cheddar, as long as it melts and is not too old. Old cheeses overpower the gravy and fries. 4) Toppings: More gravy, I want my fries abit crunchy but enough to absorb the gravy, at the bottom the fries need to be soggy and there still needs to be cheese and gravy when I see the bottom of the bowl = my favourite poutine.

  20. 4:35 I like your channel but you shouldn't call out other guys with the camera running. You made a 5.25 minute video and asked for 2 rounds of like and subscribes, so maybe don't judge?

  21. Great , they finally replaced Kovacevic, they can always call up Lindstrom when Savard is gone at the deadline, let Mailloux take that run at the AHL title and replace Savard next summer if they don't think Mailloux or Reinbacher are ready.

  22. Hockey junkie another good channel my father from NL so I watched his channel too plus it’s just funny but I know what his saying (Newfie code) lol

  23. It's not the size of a player that is important but the size of the fight in him … no one would say that Francis Bouillon played "small", ask Darcy Tucker. 🤣
Barron is like a big soft Teddy Bear easily pushed over … and thus, he's a liability in his own defensive zone.

  24. Thanks for the videos. Regarding Poutine(s) , I like the one at Patati Patata (4177 Blvd Saint-Laurent, corner Rachel). And if it's not enough and you are still hungry (and still walking on Rachel Street!), you must stop by Frit Alors! (433 Rachel St. East). They have a selection but the pulled pork one is quite something.
