The main factors that prevent the mix of the two oceans are differences in salinity, temperature, and density of water in the two oceans, resulting in a phenomenon called thermohaline circulation.

Having actually seen where the two oceans meet in Panama, does not look anything like this. Just looks like a whirlpool. Something very spooky about it though.
