Even if the Wings only had one 1R pick I think they would have still taken ASP.
eh, no guarantee Canucks would draft him. might as well look at several guys that were still on the board and FOMO them

the least we could do. he gifted us quinn hughes in favour of philip zadina who isn't in the league any more. we still have willander who got 2 goals and an assist in the game after ASP got his hatty. you couldn't count on benning picking guenther with that pick. he DID take juolevi over tkachuk after all.
In regards to the ASP talk, the pick we sent them was irrelevant. ASP was still on the board and we opted to draft Willander instead. It’s possible that ASP ends up with the higher ceiling of the two, but you can’t argue that Willander isn’t a stud in his own right. He has five points in three WJC games and is on the top powerplay unit wth ASP. He’s going to be great in Vancouver.

Honestly think the trade was a win-win which you don't see happen very often. Usually you can say in retrospect one team got the better deal. I think ASP's ceiling is higher than Hronek, but that is going to be later down the line. Detroit still had/has a lot of issues that need to be addressed before they can start making the post season and contending, so they can wait for someone to develop when their window opens up. Vancouver needed a guy to help fix a problem right now. Hronek has done way better for them than he did for Detroit. I think the trade really turned out best for everybody.
