Matt and guest co-host Jeff Paterson discuss the Canucks losing Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes to injury and the collapse vs Seattle. Is this a cursed season? They talk about the path forward without their stars; the awful home record; how Thatcher Demko and J.T. Miller need to step up with all the injuries; the letter assignments to Conor Garland and Tyler Myers; and the Canucks debut game on Prime.
Darren Dreger joins and says there’s more trade chatter on Miller with preliminary discussions taking place as teams call the Canucks. He wonders whether the New York Rangers might circle back on their former player as the catastrophe continues on Broadway. Darren talks about the Hughes, Pettersson injuries and the holiday roster freeze, which saw an increase in trade activity.
Cam Robinson joins from the World Junior Championships in Ottawa. Cam says life without Hughes is a dark and scary place and that the season is looking cursed. Cam talks about Canada’s loss to Latvia and narrow win vs Germany as well as previewing the NYE showdown with the U.S. Did Canada leave too many good offensive players off the team? Did they miscast the power play? How did Dave Cameron get the gig as head coach? Plus, an update on Canucks’ prospect Tom Willander, who is having a terrific tournament for Sweden.

Hughes was the only thing keeping the team respectable, other than Lankinen and Sherwood, and Tocchet is guilty of overplaying Hughes and his goalies to death. At the rate things are going Desharnais will be on the top pairing in a few games, with some 3rd pairing defencemen trying to carry the team. Brock not wearing the "A" isn't a big deal, because having the As on different lines works better on a functional level of interactions with officials. You can't blame Myers for not being Bobby Orr all the time on the top pairing. You can blame Juulsen for making some horrific giveaways instead of either eating the puck on the boards or chipping the puck out along the boards. Canucks management have made a lot of good moves in the last year or so, but if Allvin doesn't pull the trigger on a trade soon to stop the bleeding, this team is going to be in trouble trying to get back into the playoffs. That or you look at the way this season has gone, give the players a few more games to show you they're worth supporting this season, before you start making plans for next season.
Just tank and get a high pick over and over and yr team will improve
What in the 9 hells is happening with Hronek?
Speaking of broadcasts, fans across the country aren't subjected to those intrusive, kitschy, glass-overlay insert ads, except in Vancouver on Sportsnet Pacific. The lack thereof is perhaps another reason that Matt Sekeres enjoyed the Amazon game. I find that it degrades the experience to an almost absurd degree, just looks so unnatural.
