Jets are so bad…They'll never get out of this mediocrity playing like this. They've been stuck in the middle/below average spot since their Thrashers days…why? Bad goaltending and no discipline. They have to realize NHL games are won with Skill and Speed now…doesnt matter how big you are, obviously physicality is still important but here they let their tempers get the better of them. A team that is in a very very slim playoff race taking like 10 penalties every game will never succeed, the game was frustrating but you are behind and you have to keep playing to win. They need to move on from their old core and culture, You have Patrik Laine for goodness sakes…dont waste him…build around Laine, Scheifele and Ehlers and it should be easy.
This is why Player Safety should be suspending players regardless of their stardom. No amount of honor fighting can overcome the sense of resentment that comes with someone getting away with what Malkin did.
Refs weren't taking any chances of the game getting out of control. So yes, at that time during the game when a team is up 3 goals and the teams are starting to get scrappy towards the end that call is the right thing to do. Some people have absolutely no knowledge of hockey. Most people probably weren't even watching the game but suddenly they think they know more than the refs because they watch a 1 minute video

It wasn't just after the whistle, it was after an icing call. The rules regarding contact are more strictly enforced after an icing call – the main reason being to prevent someone going in hard for a check when icing is being called, but also because one linesman is half the ice away.
It was a misconduct, not a game misconduct. If you get a misconduct with not enough time left to serve it you get sent to the dressing room.
I'm not a jets fan, but I think that should be roughing, not game misconduct. Look at NHL 17, if you do that after icing call, (I tried that) it was roughing.
Malkin has done this literally dozens of times. Although usually he needs at least one teammate to help out. Funny thing is, I don't remember him ever getting a penalty for it.
