Red Wings ‘play f—ing hockey’ and earn their 1st win of the McLellan era!

The Detroit Red Wings ‘play f—ing hockey’ and dominate the Washington Capitals, delivering Todd McLellan his 1st win as head coach. Alex DeBrincat’s 2 goals led the way, while Patrick Kane reached point 1,300 on a goal and an assist. The top line featuring Joe Veleno dominated play as well. #LGRW

  1. This team looked ready to play! Was nice not to hear lalonde at the end of every game sayings “it’s a process” well that process took entirely too long

  2. Had these Yzerman bums played this hard earlier, we would have had a few more wins. This just confirms that his choice of coach was ridiculous. Tanguay should have been gone at the same time, he gives a bad name to cronies everywhere.

  3. Didn’t get to watch the game however when I watched the highlights I noticed that we were breaking out of our zone instead of dumping it to the neutral zone 👏

  4. those guys dont ever come around or make it to free agency? what about Dylan Strome a former #3 overall pic and 25 goal producing center at 24 years with size (6'3") the wings could have signed him for 1 year 3.5 million OR however many years they wanted to sign him to for likely 4 million or less INSTEAD of Andrew Copp or including Andrew Copp and then the team doesnt have to sign Compher to a larger contract the next year. Strome is on pace for 90 points. how was this not an OBVIOUS option for this front office 3 years ago considering the moves we have made…..#3 overall pick 25+ point per game player. FREE AGENT we passed on…

  5. What a refreshing game to watch, and not just because we won. This team looks like they want to be on the ice again. I like veleno on the top line so far. Splitting seider and ed seems to be working. Seeing this game under McLellan with just 1 full practice under his belt makes me realize even more how outclassed Lalonde was. Obviously they won’t win every game now, but the team that played tonight looks a lot more like the team I expected to see this season. LGRW

  6. After the 2nd goal, the roof came down off the LCA. One guy screamed, "We're back mo********s!" And the Wings looked alive. It was exhilarating, the most alive the place has felt in months. May not win a ton, but it was a breath of satisfaction. #LGRW

  7. So the players have no responsibility for the way the season has progressed? Does the coach have a joystick controlling these guys? McKellen hasn't changed their system. You sound as if it's ok for players to not play hard if they don't like their coach or his system. What happened with Lalonde and these players revealed some major character flaws.

  8. It’s nice the Wings got a win but it’s only one game. Gonna need to see some more consistency before they deserve praise

  9. Not a Seider fan because a lot of the missteps and blown assignments, but I've noticed Seider play much better with the puck recently. Thing is, like I have said previously, possession of the puck gives you a better chance to win games. They actually won battles and kept the puck pretty much the whole first period. I did notice the Wings start to run out of gas during the second and a good portion of the third periods but it was fortunate that they were at the right place at the right time defensively to quell any of the Caps rushes or possessions during both of those periods. Wings are gonna need to find a way to keep gas in the tank, even when they're ahead in the game.

  10. Loved that the lines been shaken up a bit. Veleno looked great with Larkin. Kasper, Rasmussen had their moments. Raymond could have easily netted 3 with his chances. Only concern is Tarasenko, kind of invisible all game. Coaching matters when it comes to strategy, and knowing how to effectively use players to their strengths, Veleno is a prime example.
