Appleton is a fourth liner
Demelo? Lacks foot speed and generally was playing way over his capabilities in previous years. Gets pummeled against fast hard forchecking teams. 4th line needs improvement( needs to chip in occasionally) and as currently constructed is not capable of doing so. 2nd line is a jumbled mess of players who don’t seam to suit each other.
The impact that the front office seems to have on line-up decisions for Arniel just further proves what I've suspected. The organization wanted the safe choice for a coach who will follow their wishes. So in hindsight, a Stanley Cup-winning coach in Craig Berube had no real chance at the Jets' HC job because he would have rightfully demanded having autonomy over how he constructed the forward lines and D pairings. Berube wouldn't have hesitated to break up the top line and third line to balance the line-up and and I'm quite sure Stanley would have stayed in the press box.
The top line does look great… when they're not playing a heavier and more physical team, like the Knights or Stars. The second line needs a true 2C because Namestnikov is not it, and never has been. The third line is over-relied upon for defense and has outlived its usefulness and needs to be split. The fourth line does not provide enough offense. Morrissey is the only consistent blue-liner they have and he needs a real partner. Demelo needs to be moved to the second pairing when Samberg comes back, and Pionk needs to be traded along with Stanley.
