This is NOT a hockey play

We’ll take a closer look at Ryan Reaves’ hit on Darnell Nurse as we break down an exciting game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Edmonton Oilers!

  1. I think skating around the net with your head down, and not paying attention to who is on the ice is much less of a hockey play.. its the NHL.

  2. This was a bad call, he should have gotten a major at max. Nurse had his head down and when your playing hockey you need to have your on a swivel. Personally i dont think reaves had any other option than to hit him.

  3. Why couldn't he have hit someone important instead? If Nurse goes on LTIR they can free up the cap space, and I want the Oilers to suck, not be better because they lose Nurse to this idiot.

  4. He literally pokes the puck then braces for contact. How you want it to be more of a hockey play exactly? He didn't go in there head hunting.

  5. Maybe I bit careless by reeves, but nurse had his down while he had possession and was heading into a dangerous area. That’s on him for not paying attention. Literally the first thing you learn with full contact is to keep your head up

  6. The rule you should have looked up is 56.2 Interference "A minor penalty shall be imposed on a player who deliberately

knocks a stick out of an opponent’s hand, or who prevents a player

who has dropped his stick or any other piece of equipment from

regaining possession of it. " Surprise Surprise – Eck doesn't bother to check the facts if the facts are on the Leafs side. McDavid should have gotten a penalty – no tie game no Marner heroics in OT. A far more egregious non-call than the Stutzle call that you were crying about.

  7. If it is headcontact then yes he should have been thrown out. If not then it shouldn't of even been a penalty. If you disagree show me the rule book. I could be wrong.

  8. Hockey makes absolutely no sense, they encourage hitting and bodychecking but then when a player gets a concussion by accident someone gets suspended. If ya dont want for players to get hurt all the time, then change the game.

  9. Wow. The Oilers who had head hunter Raffi Torres now get this kind of penalty drawn for a headshot? The league has changed šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

  10. Not a "sly" move by McDavid. It was illegal when Bobby McMann accidentally moved a stick 10 cm during the course of play. If that was a 2 min, McDavid should have gotten the boot honestly.

  11. I didn't like the hit, but Trouba throws way worse hits, and attempts to, on a regular basis. Not all of them end up like this, but he jumps way more and aims for the head more clearly. This one being called out feels like it's because it's Toronto.

  12. reaves is a suspension waiting to happen. love bisonnette trying to justify. another idiot.

  13. And yet the NHL won’t ever suspend Trouba when he does stuff like this, but because an oilers player got hit, now they care

  14. Svechnikov leveled Hampus Lindholm with same type of check during playoffs and there was no penalty or suspension. Refs picking and choosing who gets fined? the league only goes after tough guys? both Nurse and Lindholm out for extended time but Lindholm missed playoff hockey which hurt team more. league SUCKS

  15. Not a hockey play but also not on purpose. He was just expecting Nurse to protect himself. Nurse himself would have finished that hit. His head was low and this was an accident not intentional. 2 games would have been enough 5 says he meant it and he didn’t mean to hit him in the head. People saying they should ban Revo for the year should go watch golf

  16. That was a clean check

    Soft snowflake generation.

Eric Lindros used to skate with his head down. The NHL tried to teach him not too.

    Your generation is absolutely soft.

Walk around like a bunch of snowflakes.

That body check was clean and awesome.

You should go check out some of the body checks from players in the 90s.

These players today would never survive ulf Samuelsson.

one day the NHL is going to figure it out. When they get an old school owner who puts together a team.

    That finishes their checks.

What's even worse. Again your generation.

Not one edmonton oiler player stood up for the hit.

    Not one.

They stood around hoping mommy and daddy would wipe away the tears.

Snowflakes. Always buckle under pressure. You've been raised by the boomers incorrectly.

When the world kicks you down you kick back and kick back harder

  17. I still don't see that as a dirty hit. Watching frame by frame he was squared shoulder to shoulder until body position of nurse changed last second, his head wasn't on a swivel as it shoulda been coming around the net like that, wasn't intentional to knock his head off. Always unfortunate when a guy gets hurt but it's the NHL, I wanna see hard play. Maybe I'm old school

  18. Avalanche fan here. MORE Goalie interference BS in the Avs vs Flyers game tonight. I'd love to see a video on that and break it down. This rule needs to be changed it's so bad.

  19. Been plan hockey since the 80s that was a good hit. We were always told to keep.ur eyes up u get hit like that it's ur fault for not being wake on the ice. I mean we let people fight in are game. Thus players need to be aware on the ice thing they teach you as soon as you start playing

  20. I love tough, hard hitting hockey. But the league sucks at making the rules clear on head shots. ā€œPrincipal point of contactā€ is a horrible standard. Players wear weapons on their shoulders and elbows nowadays. Grazing someone’s shoulder on your way to a head shot is a joke.

Here’s a very simple, straightforward standard for hits:
-The hitter must adjust the height/level of his hit to make contact with ā€œhittee’sā€ shoulder or chest. If the hitter is unable to lower his hit to the height/level of opponents shoulder/chest and as a result makes head or chin contact, it’s an illegal hit.

This solves the problem and is a clear, easy to understand and enforce standard that will keep hitting in the game (as it should be), and prevent brain damage. What is crucial is that the hitter must bend his knees or lower his body for the hit.
