Recap: San Diego Gulls vs Ontario Reign, 12.27



The San Diego Gulls triumphed in a thrilling 4-3 shootout victory over the Ontario Reign on Friday night at Pechanga Arena. The Gulls overcame an early deficit, with Ryan Carpenter and Pavol Regenda leading the charge. Carpenter netted two goals, including a shorthanded effort in the first period and a power-play tally in the second, earning him first-star honors. Regenda added a goal and an assist, while Yegor Sidorov sealed the win with the lone shootout goal. Ontario’s Francesco Pinelli struck twice in the first period, and Arthur Kaliyev added a power-play goal in the second, but the Reign couldn’t convert in overtime or the shootout. The Gulls outshot the Reign 35-24 and dominated special teams, scoring once on eight power-play opportunities and killing four of five penalties. The victory marked a gritty team effort, featuring strong goaltending and clutch performances as San Diego fans roared their support.
