At a Detroit Red Wings press conference, General Manager Steve Yzerman said the Wings are not playing at his expectations and shared what went into his decision to hire Todd McLellan as the team’s next coach.
McLellan was assistant coach with the Red Wings during Yzerman’s final NHL season as a player in 2005-2006. He won a Stanley Cup with the team in 2008.

Man he looks unsettled ๐ข! His seat is probably getting warm. He mentioned patience,๐๐คจ๐ค I believe the fans have been more than patient with this rebuild they deserve better.
Steve isnโt going anywhere and rightfully so, heโs done nothing but win everywhere heโs gone. The cupboard was so empty when he arrived.
an experienced head coach should have been done on day 1 of steve yzermans gm journey with this club theres the typical impatient fans words as well! ๐คทโโ๏ธ๐ซค๐
Audio is terrible
Steve, if you think Talbot for Reimer, Gustaffson for Gostisbehere, Walman for nothing, Perron for Tarasenko is improving your hockey team you should check the thickness of those lenses youre wearing !
Happy to see a change. Something was needed to show some spark.
Now i know he won't until the off-season but a roster acquisition could really help especially at defense.
St. James is the worstest of the worst. ๐
Fantastic hire, welcome to Detroit coach
I understand people frustration with yzerman because of what the teams been through right now. But our last couple of first round draft people prior to him have been TERRIBLE. He was brought in with nothing, and we now have one of if not the best prospect pools.
ASP, Cossa, Augustine, Mazur, Buchelnikov, Danielson, Lombardi etc. all great prospects including the ones we already have on our team. Theyโll turn it around in another 2 years when these guys start to come up.
Unfortunately, the Yzerplan isnt working as well as it did in Tampa.
It's just not working Steve. I think you were an amazing player, but as a GM๐
Face it, the LaLonde hire was terrible. I was never impressed with the guy. The defensive corps this team has put out there, except for Seider, is horrendous. That for the most part is Stevie's fault. That really wasn't the coach's fault, but any coach was set up to fail with such a weak defensive team.
I had his blade as a kid ๐ always like the Yzerman angle.
The team, stevo, which you put together, is the worse bunch of horse-bleep in hockey. No one could win with this bunch of slew-foots.
good move from what I see. now a keen eye has to be placed on replacing him with a right leader. wishing mclellan the best
