Did the Canucks seriously MESS UP with this player? | WJC 2025

The 2025 World Junior Chamionships (WJC) kicked off today. Axel Sandin Pellikka got a Hat trick. Cole Hutson played well, Gavin Mckenna led Canada to victory over the Finland national team, and much more. We’ll talk all about the Canucks and them taking Tom Willander over Axel Sandin Pellikka in the 2023 NHL Draft.

  1. Honestly it's a lose lose.

You keep both draft picks and quinn doesnt have his perfect partner and canucks don't have a 2nd puck moving dman in a canucks cup window which is now

You pick 1 over the other and and people with bitch on how canucks lost out on 2 star dman.

  2. Im fine with this we gave up this guy to detroit and they gave up quinn hughes to us so i think its fair

  3. Talk about wilander more next time, i dont have time to watch the games and i want to see how the guy is performing. 😁 Great video otherwise.

  4. Canucks always give up first round picks, and it very rarely pans out. They are notoriously horrendous when it comes to management decisions. This new group seems a bit better, but I still can't say I approve of all the moves they have made. Signing Pettersson to more than 10 million dollars is absurd to me, especially when he can't drive a line. He is fragile both mentally and physically, which makes him a ghost in the playoffs. Furthermore, the Lindholm trade last year did not work at all. The signings of Debrusk, Sherwood and Lankinen have been great so far, but they also had a couple duds in Deharnais and Heinen. Heinen at least holds a roster spot, but he is seemingly irrelevant most nights, and could easily be replaced by Di Giussepe or Aman. I also don't think Podkolzin should have been traded for a 4th round pick if we were just going to bring in Heinen. Podkolzin has more offence and has proven to be effective if used properly ( just watch an Edmonton game).

Not to mention the fack they are paying OEL 5M for the next two seasons, and then 2.5 the following year. Mikheyev ( who was a UFA signing) also has money retained this year and next. Furthermore, they wasted loads of money overpaying for Myers, which was a very clear panic signing because the D market was horrible that season. It's clear ownership wants to win now, but has no idea how franchises succeed long term. If they give a GM a real opportunity to build long term, we MIGHT see some success. However, idiotic decisions from immature management has always cost the franchise.

  5. we've got hronek and willander. detroit has sandin pelllika. willander will be ok. i'm really interested to see what d man pettersson brings. hopefully we see him in the spring with the canucks. i haven't missed one WJC in 35 years and i watch all the games. i will bail if one team starts blowing out another. like the coverage.

  6. You forgot to mention how willander is the better skater and defender. Asp is just better offensively because he isn’t a two way defender like willander.. and willander can produce.

  7. Vancouver needs to stop using Sweden as a farm team. They will never make 2nd round the the over paid Swedish players they got. Tanked last year and sleeping.

  8. Kid scores a hat trick in a tournament for kids against a team that’s only there because for some odd reason Russian kids aren’t allowed to play. David Jiricek had a great kids tourney also and he’s a career AHL player. This all means nothing.

  9. I rather see good young players signing up to clubs that develop and enhance their skillset.
Not to end up in Vancouver where good players go to die, and be lambasted and hung out by their so called fans.
Who would need enemies when they could just dial a Canuck fan for some quality input?

  10. Way too early to see who's the better pick. Not to mention, ASP was passed by 5 teams after.

  11. Aren't Detroit fans critical of their GM's rebuilding after rebuild? If his name isn't Yzerman they'd see new management.

  12. Detroit gave Canucks Quinn Hughes. Hronek has been amazing in return. Willander and Pettersson both look good. Don’t think the Canucks messed up.

  13. Finland looked better for a stretch in the 3rd period when they had something like 8 shots in a row… But, yeah overall they need to play better to be a contender for gold or a medal.

  14. the thing is with ASP we didn't need him that much since we have Quinn and Hronek still in their primes: We needed a defensive specialist who can put up some points to round out the Dcore.

  15. I wouldn't beat yourself up about it. The Willander vs ASP stuff is dumb. Just two great prospects and I hope Willander is a rock for Vancouver.

  16. Hronek doesn't play well in the 2nd half of the year and the playoffs. ASP looks insane. Red Wings won this trade. A see lots of Canucks cope in the chat.

  17. ASP is pure offence. Willander is the total package. Tommy has size, can skate, defend well, move the puck up ice, and produce offense.

  18. If this time period is going to be the best "window" for the Canucks, then that's just sad. They're the 3rd best team just in the Pacific, and can't even be considered a true contender. The team has only won 2 playoff series in the past 11 seasons and will be lucky if they win one this season.
Petterson can't stay healthy for full seasons, and when he is healthy he's not getting along with Miller.

  19. Let's reserve judgment till we see how these kids play in the NHL! Lot of junior stars can't crack NHL rosters and become career AHL players!

  20. not really happy with Hronek sorry:( makes a lot of bone head plays… wished we trade him and package him with Petey to Buffalo… we go after Dahlin and go after Tage Thompson… then trade JT, Brock as well… We build around our captain… this time we get rid of toxic JT… its sucks we got rid of Bo:(

  21. hes too tiny to compliment the top pair we have on the team for the long term here. hes a great player but willander will be solid and wont get thrown around throughout their D
