  1. Thru 34 games: 13-17-4=30 pts. GF=88 GA=111 4+ goals games=11
    Last Season: 16-14-4=36 pts. GF=121 GA=113 4+ goals games=18

Lost Sprong, Fabbri, Perron, Walman, Gostisbehere. Combined 75 Goals.
Gained Tarasenko. 4 Goals so far.

  2. Red Wings fan. I am thrilled that Gru and Boughner are gone. Do I think this is a playoff team? No,. But I am not convinced the players are being used to their maximum.

  3. It'll probably take Detroit from being a bottom 5 team to a bottom 9. Just enough to make sure they pick late lottery again.

  4. They really need to fire Steve Yzerman. He has been doing this rebuild for five years and the Red Wings are no closer to making the playoffs now than they were when he first became GM in 2019

  5. Red Wings fans know the Holland "Debuild" started in 2016. The actual rebuild started when Yzerman took over. Holland left the cabinets bare and stole all the copper on his way out. Detroit has had no luck in the draft lottery, but has done well with what they've been given.

I knew they would be worse this season than last, but this season has been a nightmare. It's been obvious for months that Lalonde's system has not been working. He should have been let go after Thanksgiving. It's not all his fault, this roster is a downgrade from last year, especially paying SJ to take Walman.

It's too late to salvage this season and make the playoffs, but it's the perfect time to introduce a new system and culture to build on next season.

  6. It doesn’t fix the season by any means, but it gives him time to implement his system for the start of next season

  7. Detroit has a ton of other issues, but Lalonde was an issue that needed to be dealt with. Not sure how I feel about the McLellan signing yet, but we'll see. Lalonde definitely had to go though.

  8. This is not going to be a good coaching fit to me. The Wings have too many players who are either washed up or haven't made it yet. There's maybe 3 players I look at right now and think would be good on a playoff team. McLennan is a coach that demands offense but it seems like the Wings have built a team better suited for defensively minded guys. I can't see this ending well for the Wings with how little they have in the system and how bad they still are after allegedly being a sure fire playoff team this year lol

  9. Hopefully McClelland can get them to play 500 the rest of the year but I doubt it. I don’t see them making the playoffs this year, I hope I'm wrong. I thought they started to fizzle out at the end of last year and honestly was hoping they wouldn’t make the playoffs as they would have been annihilated in the first round the way they were playing. I thought their best game this season was against the leafs a few weeks back, seemed like a full team effort. If they play like that they will start winning. I think Kane will come around, he’s still a great stick handler and great as the qback on the power play. At time Larkin tries to carry the team on his back and tries to do too much, if the rest of team did their job he’d be more productive. Seider is a saving grace, can’t count the number of goals he’s prevented. Go Wings!

  10. LOL, right a new head coach is going to fix the years of poor draft choices and personnel decisions this team has made for years.

  11. I can see Detroit having a bump in their record with a few more wins with having a new coach. However, I really think that they are not done with changes to the team and the roster if they're going to have any chance of making the playoffs this year.

  12. It's worth remembering that in 2016, their first post-McLellan season, San Jose went to the finals – without major roster changes. McLellan is a good coach and his teams always perform, but he's an interesting case in that they also don't perform beyond expectations.

  13. It’s a flawed team and will continue to lose. This was so Yzerman can buy himself more time with the fans. The loss of ghost and Perron was huge. And moving wallman looks like a pretty big mistake at this point. Those are the reasons they took a big step backwards this year not coaching

  14. Likely doesn’t change the projection of this season, but I think it was clear that Lalonde had lost the room.

  15. as a Kings fan, I think TM is a great coach. PLD kinda messed that up for LA but it’s worked out pretty good so far 😄 Glad he’s getting a shot in Detroit, hope they can turn things around

  16. His best strategy in big games like vs Ottawa and Buffalo was just to complain to the refs the whole time. Not a fan of Detroit but hopefully this can freshen things up for them

  17. It's the old saying,…can't fire the players, so has to be the coach. I respect Mclellan, but he is recycled old school, think Woodcroft would have been a better choice. Problems with the team are serious and run deep, lot of questionable contracts with lot of term remaining. Can see Wings moving out a lot of players, and may not wait until the deadline if they don't at least play .500 for the next month under the new leadership behind the bench.

  18. The root problem with the Wings is StevieY and he just bought himself another 3 years, minimum 🙄

  19. I don't think it will change much. There are too many bad contracts with unproductive players. The Jake Walman trade made absolutely no sense. I think Yzerman deserves to be on the hot seat after this season. It's been weird the last few years to see the Red Wings become such a boring and completely irrelevant team in Detroit. It's no surprise people chant football players' names during games since there is nothing to root for on the ice. The Wings get brutally outshot and outplayed nearly every game.

  20. You might have done it a while ago and if not it would be nice if you could make a coach list, either a top 10 of your favorites or of the objectively best ones based on records and trophies

  21. At least for Todd he won't go out in round 1 this year… If I'm not mistaken the trajectory has the Oilers sweeing the Kings in the first round.of the 2025 playoffs.

  22. Wait isn't tarasucko in Detroit? Don't worry he will request to be traded to a Stanley cup playoff team leaving you guys high and dry.

  23. This move probably should've happened during the offseason. Wings needed solid NHL experience on the bench, even if Todd's playoff resume is quite embarrassing, frankly, despite 2 conference finals appearances (got crushingly out-strategized in both, too).

  24. Todd is a good coach. Dunno why the kings fired him when there really isnt much of a difference with hiller.

  25. A multi-year deal as well so it seems Yzerman either is panicking or this was planned ahead of time.

I believe Bougner was in charge of defense so definitely a needed move.

Let’s hope the new discipline works.

  26. Detroit was going to be worse than last season. No way that astronomically good shooting percentage was going to continue
