Did the Habs jump the gun giving Slafkovsky a big contract? | HI/O Bonus
Montreal Canadiens GM Kent Hughes signed the 20-year-old to an eight-year, US$60.8-million contract that kicks in next season. His performance this season raises questions about the deal’s merits.
I thought it was a big contract too fast but Slaf is still young and he has to get meaner and use his size. His fore check will improve and turn pucks over and get alot of helpers. Alot of the season is left and I like his future here. The team is rebuilding it will be ok
that's how those contracts work. you sign them early and hope that they are value contracts towards the end when the team is actually a contender so that you have money to add missing pieces
Lol Ive said it long ago. Hes worth 6.5 not more than that. Habs definitely shoot themselves in the foot for the next 9 years with this. Our best bet is hopefully he doesn't turn into the next Koketniemi. Def overpaid for not a true #1 draft pick.
He will be like a Elias Lindholm. He will be nothing but disappointing. And the media already got to him. Its doomed. Hes no where near Byfield skill level
Re-Slav-they need a vision for him…@ 6-3 230 lbs the game is fast for a heavy guy, he needs some mentoring…including some footwork drills. His whole career is going to be about learning, and keeping a growth mindset. He should be worth it if he grows all aspects of his game, hitting shot blocking etc.
Im not Slafkovsky’s number one fan but he is the only guy on that line who can play along the boards . Caufield has heart and does his best to stand his ground in terms of physicality but he doesn’t have the size to play that game . Suzuki is a very skilled player but he plays like a schoolgirl and often avoids physical contact and visibly quits on loose puck battles . The guy mostly waits for the power play to boost his stats and becomes invisible 5 on 5 against tough and physical match-ups . This team is turning into what the leafs looked like a couple years back and won’t be able to get passed a second playoff round in a couple of years if they don’t find tougher top 6 players .
Slaf will be a great player for Habs. I’m sure GMs will be more careful after Blues scooped a couple of Oilers. You don’t want other teams dictating your cap for RFAs. I believe HuGo are solid on how they want to build this team. Some good contracts in place, good players on Habs and in the pipeline, lots of good draft capital. Just keep building !!
No wonder Hab fans can be idiots. This title is BS Slaf is 20 being playing with Dach, who has not recovered from his TWO injuries. Caufield took almost a season to start being himself from a key injury. A few weeks ago ppl were out with pitch forks for St Louis head among others. Pump the brakes PUMP THE BREAKS!
That’s the risk you take, just think about Hutson, imagine how much he is going to be worth if we let him tear it up for 3 years of his ELC. Let’s just say you’d be paying double digits most likely but if you offer him say after next season you can prob get him lower and just as long term.
Why the Canadiens don't offer contracts with more bonus based on performance? For example, players can get paid $10,000 per points and/or plus minus stats.

You should get paid for what you do not for expectations of what you could do??
i dont like paying guys top dollar ,for something they might become.
because if slaffy is worth 8,then hutson is worth 9.then what is demidov worth?

I would rather taking a small risk with Slaf than relive the Subban error
Potential of anything is potential disaster. This thinking will ruin sports. In the end we the fans pay for this “potential”.

He has yet to prove to me that he belongs. Shades of jesperi kotkaniemi.
Yes they did, 100%.
Great show
NO! Slaf will be a beast!
Stupid contract.
such a great cast
