Here as an Oiler fan just to say a loved Todd as a coach. One hell of a coach and it really seemed even a better human being.

If only the Red Wings drafted Quinn Hughes instead of Pavel Zadina. Maybe the YZERPLAN will make up for it.

Doesn't matter. So far the Yzerplan has yet to put playoff team together. Our defensemen basically suck except for Sieder and Edvinsson. We don't have any consistent scoring, and goaltending is a major problem. Lyon and Talbot are just band-aids until Cossa is ready. Also I'm tired of hearing the young guys aren't ready. When will they be ready?

Few things here: the “Yzerplan” is all about building a core through the draft…. That is going well given the play of Raymond, Seider and Edvinsson.
As for the free agency: people, include Top Shelf hockey overlook the fact you can only sign players that want to come. The fact you included the free agents in the same breath of the Yzerplan shows how out of touch you are with what is going on in Detroit.
Yzerman has to sign short term veterans becuase you can ice 15 (18-20yr) olds. Hence why many are short term deals and there was a few off season he had to hit the cap floor, hence the higher price.
Yzerman tried to get Trocheck, settled for Copp for example. Tried to get Stamkos, lost out.
In saying that, even if Yzerman did get better FAs…. Let’s say he signed Stamkos, Marchessault and Skjei would that have helped by comparison? It didn’t I’m Nashville….
Reality is the Yzerplan is and was and is still about the youth in Detroit from the draft…. People calling it done, when it’s just getting started.
I expect, Stevie had McLellan hired before Christmas likely after the last loss. He wasn't going to announce this on Christmas day..

The veteran free agents they brought in are merely stopgaps to help the kids adjust and learn how to be NHL hockey players. While i agree that that there have been bad contracts, the vast majority of them will be off the books when this team (hopefully) becomes competitive.
The coaching change can only help. This team has been unwatchable and it's clear Lalonde lost the boys and the lack of compete was just not good enough. Of course they are not competing for the cup, but they shouldn't be THIS bad. They had to do something.
They need more high picks. As a detroit fan im willing to be patient with a young team. Let these veteran contract fall off or trade them.

I'm good with it as long as the results eventually come. Immediately want to see more "give a sht" and organization. The status quo was an absolute cluster.
