  1. Bemstrom is a man among boys in that league. Some fans may be disappointed, but I think the Jackets are through making moves for the time being. You figure two goalies (Merzlikins and Korpisalo), six defensemen ( Jones, Werenski, Savard, Gavrikov, Peeke and Kukan), four centers ( DuBois, Domi, Koivu and Nash) and eight wingers ( Atkinson, Foligno, Jenner, Nyquist, Texier, Bemstrom, Bjorkstrand and Foudy) and six guys trying to find a way to make the team in training camp (Harrington, Gerbe, Stenlund, Eric Robinson, Stefan Matteau and Mikhail Grigorenko) The weakest link in the chain might be Nash, but in order to add anyone they would have to move one of the previously mentioned players. My suspicion is they wanted Taylor Hall, but he turned them down, so they moved on and signed Koivu. After extending DuBois and Gavrikov, they should have 7 or 8 million dollars to play with. I can't see overpaying for Hoffman, who has 28 of his 65 goals the last two years on the power play and in 5 on 5 hockey has a minus 49 rating, or Toffoli who had a 30 goal season 5 years ago and hasn't approached those numbers since. About the only other thing I could see them doing is an offer sheet to Mathew Barzal, but I'm sure the Islanders would match it.

  2. Hopefully he can show that speed on a more regular basis this season. We saw flashes but he's sneaky fast when he gets going.
