  1. If you don’t like this contract then you either don’t like the Preds or don’t follow the team. Ellis stays at a lower cap hit freeing up space in the future. Rinne’s 7 mill comes off the books next year and he will sign for less if does sign. Smith’s contract will also be up in 2 years, which opens up another 4 mil. That alone will leave ample space for signing/resigning. Plus, the cap will go up a few times between now and the end of the contract, even with a lockout.

  2. Ellis said on radio today that he didn’t want to break the bank with the contract because he was thinking about keeping the team competitive. He’s definitely a team first guy. We’ll see what happens with Josi, Ekholm and Fabbro. Could make for some interesting trade discussions lol.

  3. Absolute steal for Nashville. Ellis was on pace for a 60 point season if he had played a full 82 games. Him and Josi complement each other greatly as well when they're paired together. Also gotta feel lucky if you're Saros, getting to groom into the starters role behind Nashvilles top 4 dmen.

  4. Hard hitting no. Points are his game. Shot from the point and plays smart. Undersized though. Overpaid for too long. Bad contract.

  5. Two things Ellis did not get was his asking price of seven million and he also did not get a no trade clause in his contract. However, FYI, he just got married this month and both he and his wife love living in Nashville and he wants to play for the Predators and the Predators want him. Everyone on the team is still all in that this is a definite Stanley Cup Contender team despite their stumble and fumble against the Jets in the second round.

  6. Congrats to Nashville. He's a fantastic player and a Top 15 defenseman in the league IMO. It's impossible to be a bad team with 3 of the Top 15 defenseman in the league plus Ekholm who you could argue is a Top 20 guy as well.

  7. Wonder what Roman Josi will receive if Poyle is willing to sign him to a new contract at the end of next year? 8 million for 8 years?

  8. Ellis's propensity to puck the puck on goal is invaluable. Can't score if you don't shoot. He doesn't hesitate to sling up to the crease.

  9. Hey, Shannon, are you going to talk about Poile getting tabbed for the US Hockey Hall of Fame?
