The Edmonton Oilers Are Back To Stanley Cup Form

The Edmonton Oilers had a shutdown performance to close out an amazing month of December so far. With three games left, this could be a season defining month for the Oilers and their Stanley Cup hopes.

  1. i saw skinner make one good save, but the D stopped so many shots and most of the pucks just hit him. Not impressed. When does Skinner ever come out to block the angle? He just stands there. Skinner got lucky. And very little effort by Skinner on the goal the Sens did score. Arvid did some really bad passing out of the O zone, terrible. What is wrong with Bouch? So many dumb mistakes. Rico scored a quality goal. Lucky they won.

  2. That's what the defense is suppose to do… They block the shots and the goalies make saves if the defense breaks down

  3. Game 34. Long post follows with base game statistics including some for the Ottawa Senators. Read, don't read, up to you. These are BASE stats not detailed ones. My comments and observations at the end.

Surgery still postponed so here are some stats. Again, I can't watch the games. What follows is my opinion.

Arvidsson who has lit up Ottawa in the past 6 games continues that trend with a Goal and an Assist (on the PP goal). Hyman scored (the PP goal) and has scored 10 goals in his last 9 games including in 6 straight. Rico got his 3rd goal of the season (finally) though he lost a tooth during the game (from a high stick if memory serves). For Ottawa they had one goal from Cousins, unassisted. Ullmark left the game after the first period with an upper body injury and didn't return. Merilainen took over for the last 2 periods. Both goalies had identical .857 Save %ages. At the other end Stu let in one and stopped the rest for a .952 Save %age (Excellent).

Stats wise, both teams same # of shots, Ottawa out hit Edmonton (not a surprise) 16 to 11, Ottawa won 10 more faceoffs (rare) 29 to 19. The Senators also took a LOT more penalties (12 minutes to 4) and gave one up on the PP. The Oilers PK kept the sheet clean. Oilers had more Giveaways (18 to 13), more Takeaways (7 to 5), and LOT more blocks (24 to 6).

Ottawa was frustrated and sloppy (hence the penalties). Edmonton kept their cool. Bouch had another bad night.

With LA's loss to Washington, the Oilers leap frog them and move into 2nd place in the Pacific 3 points back of Vegas who didn't play tonight. The big game is the next one after the Christmas break next Saturday when Edmonton faces LA in an important match.

    Take care all.
