It's fine if they don't get along. Like you said it's a lot of different personalities in a locker room. It's if they don't respect each other is when it has to be handled.

100 % agree that the media have nothing else to talk about ..So they run with this headline ..
It seems clear that Miller wears on people over time, and Pettersson being a plug out there doesn’t help the problem.
It feels like the issues are spot issues that media drags on and on making it a large dilemma
We've heard through out this last summer that the Canucks Management wanted Petey to be harder to play against and that coaching staff were not the ones to do so. Miller being maybe the hardest competitor and one of if not the emotional leader of the team, was taking this on/ challenged with this as his to possibly try "Toughen" Elias up (Via hearsay from Freidman & Sekeres/Price & Donny/Dhali).
We don't always get the responses we expect when those types of actions are taken, When someone who is suppose to be "on our side" starts to be over critical and hard with "Tough Love", oppose to the usual showering of compliments and constant giving of flowers. Instead we see those who no longer feel valued go back into a hole and overthink everything even if that was not the intention in the first place.
Has this been looked through the lense of a mentorship/team mate coaching fail oppose to the "Drama alert they don't like each other"?
Where one see the potential of one to be "tough to play against" without being overpower and overly physical, example Pavel Datsyuk. Pavel wasn't exactly the biggest player on the ice but was able to be a pain defensively while having offensive skill. This at one point was the vision that Elias could be like this one day. Those skills were not as quick to develop as the offensive side has to this point in his career and we may just see that work relationship never recover from JT trying to pull the best out of Elias, Just not in the way that was most effective for him. They are different ages, coming from different parts in the world so this would be understandable with no fault to either of either of them.
With EP40 disappearing roughly around the time the contract kicked in this could of compounded around then just adding pressure from himself knowing how the media will somehow villainize him for taking such a large cap him and not being at the top in all areas of the ice, even though he was being paid as he should. Having it in the back of his mind that Miller and others want him to play a certain way resulted in more thinking on the ice vs just playing free and on instinct. You could see especially early on in this season, he would get chances and take that extra moment because he is overthinking and wanting to be perfect. The sooner the media stops talking about this, the sooner these things will get better… winning helps but so does not being reminded of it. They're both smart individuals, they are aware things are not going well and I am sure it doesn't help to be confronted with questions about it, if they knew the answers they would be going through those actions.
Elias is only what, 26? Science tells us the Adult Brain stops growing around Mid-20's.. He still growing to no fault of his own, my Christmas wish this year is to get some down time from local beat reporters to stop this and look at some of the other issues that are plaguing this team as these two and their "lack of production" is by far not the only things not getting them wins.

The fact that the "Mark Messier Award for Leadership" is an absolute joke, especially where he's the only guy who 'casts a vote'.
It almost seems like the media for certain sports in certain markets would rather see the team implode than succeed. I feel like I see that with the eagles being from around the Philly area.

Almost all successful teams, and often times the MOST successful teams, have some level of locker room discord including guys who hate each other. As long as you can keep it professional (and win), it’s not a big deal. If either one of those (or both) is/are not present then it’s a huge problem and sinks the team

Rutherford, Allvin, Tocchet, the Asst Coaches, the team, and the two players should be able to work things out and even grow from it.
But if not, and the team underperforms in the reg season and playoffs, someone is likely gone over the summer.

It's the NHL and it's competitive as hell. No one can predict a winning team, there are no more dynasties. Miller and Petey are great players and they don't need to share a locker, a plane seat or a hotel room, surely there is enough space for both of them. It would be just plain dumb to trade either one of them.

I don't think I'd get along with Miller either but I don't know. I'm an introvert and think a lot. I've probably already thought any critique Miller would level at me on the ice and more on top of that, but I don't need a guy who thinks him saying it is somehow changing anything or enlightening me getting on my tits about it, especially in public in front of cameras. That includes taking responsibility, which I'd also be doing without his help. The guy that goes around thinking he's enlightening people isn't usually saying anything a smart person hasn't already thought of. That guy might often not even be as smart but thinks he is. Some say it's passion, but maybe others are just as passionate but don't broadcast it in certain ways like him. It seems almost entitled to think you're the guy that has the right or the gravitas to bark at people. Everyone has thoughts. Just because you think you're that guy, doesn't make your input any more valuable. Often, if you think you're that guy, your input might be less valuable.
Just trade one to Detroit already.

Trade Petey. If you can? Over rated. I’ve been following this team since day one 1970. This guy is a legend in his own mind. Way over paid. Hughes deserves the cash Petey gets, as do a few other Canucks. Not a fan of this management team at all. Petey will be the biggest bust in Vancouver history.
