For this video I’ve talked about the Calgary Flames and how they’re looking so far during the 2024-25 NHL Season heading into Christmas and actually in the final wild card spot in the Western Conference. Would say that I would take that given many pundits have predicted that the Calgary Flames we’re going to be a bottom feeder team especially after trading away veteran players last season who we’re on expiring contracts.
After 34 games the Calgary Flames are 16-11-7 for 39 points and are 5th in the Pacific Division and in the second and final Wild Card spot in the NHL Western Conference ahead of Christmas. Did intend to make this video after American Thanksgiving as many pundits use that as a guide on where NHL teams are at and historically teams that are in a playoff spot then make the playoffs over 75% of the time. The Calgary Flames we’re in a playoff spot on American Thanksgiving and are just before Christmas but what team are you on for either tanking or making the playoffs for 2025?
Feel that the Calgary Flames have exceeded expectations a bit due to a strong start in October and getting good goaltending from both Dustin Wolf and Dan Vladar but the offense has been coming up dry at times. This could skew what the Calgary Flames should do heading into the NHL Trade Deadline on buying or selling at the team mentioned they want another established young center. They also have some pieces that they could trade at the deadline in likely Andrei Kuzmenko and possibly Dan Vladar now with Anthony Mantha injured and out for the season with upcoming unrestricted free agents for this season.
What team are you on? I feel that we’re on neither as the team is too good for a full tank but don’t feel it’s good enough for being a playoff contender however going in the right direction with the young talent coming in. Think in a few years this team will be a contender with the right mix of veterans and who’s coming up in the system just in time to close out the Scotiabank Saddledome and move into Scotia Place by 2027.
Last piece of the video I talked about some coaching staff changes as assistant coach Brad Larsen has taken an indefinite leave for person reasons back on Sunday, December 8th, 2024. Trent Cull moves from Calgary Wranglers head coach to interim assistant coach with the Calgary Flames for Brad Larsen. Joe Cirella is named interim head coach of the Calgary Wranglers with Martin Gelinas joining Brett Sutter as assistant coach with the Calgary Wranglers.
