St. Ivany defends Crosby against Faber – Tough Call Recommendation
Jack St. Ivany stepped in against Brock Faber in defence of his captain, Sidney Crosby. It was an understandable move. Unfortunately, he came straight off the bench.
Love your videos. But you're overzealous on your suspension expectations. 10 games for doing his job? Give me a break. This rule is assinine. If it's a legal line change, then he should be free to do what others on the ice are free to do.
Spirit of the rule is to dissuade bench-clearing brawls. Does it deserve something? Yes, you can't leave the bench to start a fight. But I don't think it's egregious enough to get anything but a fine (he doesn't jump Faber, is the key) but even if it did, it shouldn't be more than 3 games.
10 games should be limited to jumping on during a full-on altercation. See: Clarkson, David. As you note, the two players have separated by the time Faber jumps on.
You are REACHING here. He made a LEGAL line change. What he does once he's on the ice is his call. He can start a fight. The rule about leaving the bench to fight, includes not having made a line change. It's not about what you do as you got on the ice.
Could you still review the offside from the penguins oilers game from a few days ago? I thought it was quite obviously offside but they called the other way so I was hoping for your insight on it
You're techinically right… but there's no way he's getting any Games for that! Hockey's in a Precarious Spot… cuz the Fans want even more Physicality in the Game… but the advertisers & the networks can't stand it @ all!! Very weird!!
Well, if a fight is not a hockey play why is there's still fighting? According to this logic, fighting should be an automatic game misconduct. You get suspended because you start a fight as you get on the ice but not right after a faceoff?
10 games? I’m a Wild fan and even to me that’s ridiculous. Should have gotten the game misconduct and maybe a fine but I don’t think a suspension is warranted.

If you want to punish the Penguins for this, you should make St. Ivany lead the team in minutes played for ten games.

IMO He first looked to his own end to see if he needed to defend therefore his first intention was not to start a fight.
