rantanen shouldn't get more than nate on the avs… but should get a raise and make more than val… i can see him making a minimum of 12.5M…
mitch needs to stay at 11 or he'll get a low ball offer on any playoff team or a bag on a dirt team… mitch is good, but not nightwing good…
Management needs to sign Mitch after the playoff exit in order to get him for less. Mitch isn't better than Bill Nye. Take the same money and earn it in the playoffs. Nobody cares about the regular season.

They are worth it. Removing them from either team would probably cost that team even qualifying for the playoffs. The Leafs are a .500 team when Marner isn't aable to play and I'm sure the same can be said of Rantanen in Colorado.

Hughes and Hronek currently make pretty similar money. Doesn't really matter because thats just the nature of signing in a time where the cap is going up. Your next deal will also be good.

Marner in no way deserves a long term $14 million. Just because he shows up during the regular season, he is an absolute phantom in the playoffs. And the Leafs are already way too top heavy. This would saddle the team with years more of early playoff exits.

In what world is Marner going to take a discount as a free agent to continue to play in Toronto where media calls him robin? He's not signing in Toronto. If the Leafs DON'T have the mindset that Marner is a free rental that hopefully plays his guts out in the playoffs because he's looking for his next payday wherever he signs…then the management needs to be cleared out again. Florida, Tampa, SJ, Dallas, Chicago, Utah, LA, Seattle. All of these teams will pay him 13M+ next year without blinking. there will be no discount. IN FACT the only way he signs in TO is by overpaying to tolerate the franchise and media. He will sign 1) in the sates. 2) where there's lower taxes 3) in a quieter hockey market. This dose of reality is a free Christmas gift from me to you to allow you to stop pondering about it for the next 5 months.
If Toronto or Colorado pay these guys that kind of money they can't afford to put a Stanley cup contending team on the ice.
I hope Marner signs with another team in the summer, and they win the Stanley Cup in his first season away from the Leafs.

It’s already too much. Playoff performance is more like 5 million dollar guys on winning teams in the last 7 years. Maybe he delivers this year because this is a signing year but he hasn’t been all than when hockey gets heavy. Nobody is worth more than everybody ever to win a cup. Unless it’s about selling jerseys😊

Sounds like Steve almost hopes the Leafs will sandbag it again in the first round just to devalue Marner next contract. Or maybe Steve has just come to terms with the fact that Mitch may very well walk away for free July 1st and wants to enjoy his last regular season with the Leafs.

The nhl contracts compared to other leagues are almost a joke…Regular season success is certainly not something to take for granted…Mitchell has to assert himself in the playoffs to earn the biggest money….he deserves to be paid as one of nhls best players…

Here's the issue with Marner too…. he's not even Robin. Willy is more like Robin than Marner. Marner is 3rd best on his own team. Case in point when he is taken off Matthews line he has issues getting points or getting into the game. Willy can be on any line same as Matthews can. So how is Marner going to ask for more or equal to a guy who can drive a line when he clearly can't?
Silly fact. Rantanen has more points (101) in playoffs than Marner and Mathews compined (98)
Marner has the same points per game in the playoffs as Matthews with a better +/- and kills penalties. Yet everyone loves Matthews and hates Marner. Leaf fans are so weird.
There is no Avs as we know it without three players: MacKinnon, Rantanen and Makar. This means for these three players you gotta pay enough to keep them happy , they are your core. Deals for others in the salary range of 3-6 Million USD you can play around with and trade as convenient, as long as you don’t touch those three, they are currently at their primes.
He's worth 14 mil AAV for sure as he's 4 most playoff points in the last 8 years only a few behind mackinnon. Butttt the 8th year of contract with guaranteed money makes this argument so stupid if he neeeeeds to make more than Leon for hubris could be the only reason.
Mikko may want to set the market for wingers with the cap going up but here's the cold hard truth:
The Avs will pay you 96 mil at 8 years X 12 AAV = 91.8 mil after colorado state tax is taken out. That gives you an uptick from Willy and keeps you under mack.
Any team with zero state tax would need to pay him 13.15mil for 7 years = 92 mil to beat that dollar amount after taxes in colorado.
Simply put nashville and seattle are the only 0% tax states that would pay him 13.15 in this market. Vegas, florida, tampa, dallas have all shown they won't pay that much money knowing they are a destination.
So Mikko needs to make a decision and that is, do you want to be a part of a mediocre franchise for your prime of your career for $4 million more dollars than what you'll get to play with Nate and Cale and go into the Avalanche rafters.

Rantanen is my favorite player on the AVs. He puts in SO MUCH work. As a life long Avs fan (I was in school when we won our first set of cups) I am worried because we are incredibly cheap/frugal insert whatever word you wish here (Look at how many times we have almost gone to arbitration in the past 10 years). 14 is SO HIGH… OOF
