The rangers ruined kakkos career. Kakko did not do that to himself. They wanted him to work on his defense before they would give him a top 6 role. He did exactly that but then lived on the 3rd line
I think the fact that the Rangers are like the prime destination for every FA is beginning to be a curse. It seems it always short circuit the team rebuilding while the foundations are not sound enough

Rangers added veterans in Trouba, Panarin, Trochek to accelerate their rebuild. They didn't rebuild for long enough and are fizzling out. Zibanejad and Kreider could have been traded in the rebuild and weren't. They're both liabilities. Trouba and Trochek went to NY by choice and now both of them are liabilities (yes I know Trouba is gone). Goodrow was a horrible decision by the way as they traded Buchnevich to extend Goodrow. They also had poor drafting luck with three busts in consecutive drafts. But ultimately this is an example of why mismatching a roster with veterans to accelerate a rebuild is dangerous. Hit a few aging vets and don't get enough young upcoming players and the team is screwed and primed for needing another rebuild in the near future.

As a Devils fan. You would expect me to be ecstactic about the rangers collapsing the way they are. Well, I am, but it's more of a bittersweet moment for me personally. For 2 reasons. The Devils current roster is built to go head to head with the rangers or at least what they're supposed to be. The way they're playing, you could say it's sending lambs to the slaughter at this point. The lack of competition is so anti climactic. The other reason is how they stunted Kakko's development. I was truly looking forward to a rivalry between Kakko and Hughes. 1OA and 2OA picks going head to head as part of 2 franchises with one of the fiercest rivalries in the league.

This will be a one year blip going to ECF 2 out of 3 seasons is alot of hockey .I wouldn’t expect Devils fans 1 playoff run in 13 years to know anything about that.Oh and since this video Kaako was a -2 so far for seattle with 0 points so much for mister I never on ice when other team score .Yall reports love when the Rangers and leafs are down because clicks go up

Kaako literally has 1 40 point season and has never score 20 goals it was time to move on
Kaapo is a solid 2 way player which the Rangers lack. Mika is soft and doesn't hit making him the – points leader on the team same for Kreider another soft player who doesn't back check . Laffy is weak on his defensive. Drury and Lavi got to go .
Drury deserves a lot of blame. Iirc, Rangers' slump began roughly when the whole "Kreider, Trouba etc are up for trade" leak happened. Players were right to be pissed off about that.
Trading Kakko is not going to solve the problem in the slightest, considering Kakko's line has been solid all season so far.

Lifelong Ranger fan here (30+ years). The idea that the Rangers can’t develop young players is not entirely true; Mika Zibanejad was a bust in Ottawa before becoming a star here, and Kreider was a first round pick who eventually developed into a power forward. Will Cuylle was a second round pick who’s developed into a top 6 guy. Adam Fox wasn’t drafted by the team but became a Norris winner shortly after arriving, and..goalies? Rangers don’t have a problem developing them, I’d say.
The issue was that they didn’t expect to land not one, but two consecutive lottery picks. The team wouldn’t have signed Panarin or extended Kreider had they thought they’d have a shot at KK and Laf, and then, right as the team was starting to compete, had these two fall into their laps, and didn’t know what to really do with them.
Chris Dreary is expert at shifting the blame for his failures onto others… it was Gallant's fault, and Goodrow, and Trouba and Kakko. Dreary has done NOTHING to address the real issues, an underachieving core and severe lack of grit. He is just flailing around with unproductive personnel moves to make it look like he is addressing something. Dreary is THE problem.
The Rangers were always a delicately built team largely depending on goaltending and a less than mediocre defense at best. Also relying on hanging on tot he puck more which they couldn’t do that all that well. They were soft physically and mentally. And ONLY when all of those aspects were running well enough did they have a decent chance to win which they kind of managed too. But now that luck has run out and now they’re being exposed for the team they always were. Which was really kinda sorta not so good.
It’s over and front office needs to realize this and mail it in. There is absolutely not amount of trading that will save this season even if you could make the playoffs we are simply not built to get anywhere meaningful in the playoffs let alone a cup appearance more win. Just sell off at the deadline and start all over.

The issue is the Rangers were flawed; their 5v5 metrics over the past couple of seasons were horrible. It was glossed over because Shesterkin was playing on a level where he was stealing so many games (he is no longer doing so) and their PP was lights out – both of these coming back to normal metrics really showed teams how BAD they were at 5v5 and against the rush.
Now teams are gameplanning against this and are exposing them horrendously. Hockey is a mental game as much as it is physical. Shooters are no longer afraid of Shesterkin, and teams are no longer terrified when the Rangers step on the ice. These are huge factors that cannot be understated.
It feels like the Rangers started their slide in the ECF but started to drop like a rock when they had to get Zibanebad more involved in the game, instead of sitting his butt down. Trading Kakko is the Rangers organization panicking to make a change because the real change they need to make is to dump Zibanebad. But they can't dump him, b/c of his no movement clause.
