Rempe elbow on Heiskanen – Tough Call Recommendation

Matt Rempe got his fourth career match penalty in his 22nd game with this elbow to Miro Heiskanen. He’s been offered an in-person hearing and will get his second career suspension. In my opinion it should be a long one.

  1. Imagine that this is from the Rangers team that called a fight with Tom Wilson "A horrific act of violence". Rempe literally just came back from minor league too and immediately will get suspended. He has been deserving of suspensions in many other cases. He is like Tom Wilson when Wilson is at his worst, the main difference is that Rempe has no talent.

  2. Rempe is a repeat offender who has demonstrated that he can't or won't learn.

  3. @1:20 into your video, you can see Rempe's shoulders are around the same height as the fans in the first row's chin. I am talking about the man and woman with stars jerseys on, behind Heiskanen, in the first row. As Rempe makes initial contact (1:22), Rempe's shoulders are now higher than their heads are. And when the full force of the hit has Heiskanen's head against the glass, (1:24) Rempe's skates are 6 inches off the ice, and his shoulders are now higher than the guy in the 2nd row's head. Thats a rocket launch, not a hockey hit.
I would give him 5 or 6 games as hes a repeat offender and with such a short career under his belt, the next offence could be life altering

  4. Haha, like the anger here, even the two voices talking over each other in the middle. I'm a Ranger/Rempe fan but that's a suspension even if he doesn't elbow him in the face. He deserves whatever he gets. He's got to learn. It's weird because his PIMs were way down in the AHL. Figured he learned his lesson before they called him back up. Had a good game besides this

  5. Everyone loves good old fashioned, hard-hitting hockey. This Rempe guy plays like an idiot, though. He could be a dominant physical player if he could learn to control himself.

  6. good call doing the repeat offender explanation on this one, i think people hearing a 4 game suspension would be like “yo wtf he just got 4 games like 10 months ago!”.

I totally agree, even in NHL i think alone this hit was a 4 game ban, taking repeat offence for a similar infraction, within a short period of time, and how much time he had to do something different, im hoping they give him 7-8 games.

  7. What is your thought about tying the length of suspension to the length of time that a player is out, with a minimum suspension required?

One would think this could be managed through medical review, but I suppose that means the league would have to have a medical review team. They’d never do that because then they’d have zero wiggle room on concussions/ CTE, etc…

  8. This hit is ridiculous in any era. Rempe is a side show for a NY. They needed a distraction and chose this fuckn idiot.

  9. Or you can hit on the left side to take the player out of play, instead of hitting in the middle with a high elbow.

  10. it seems that this young player Rempe either doesn't know how to tackle correctly according to the rules, or he is afraid to tackle and raises his hands and elbows for some reason – maybe to protect his face – I hope he didn't tackle incorrectly to intentionally injure Miro Heiskanen.

  11. Just because it's "repeat offender" which I think is horse shit in this instance because I don't think he should of been suspended before- but I'd give him 3 games. After all, Heiskanen wasn't injured. This is boarding, or elbowing. How are you going to suspend a man, as it turns out, 8 games now*, for a non-malicious hockey play that didn't actually injure someone? That's a ridiculous precedent. If we have to go by the rules the 6 game minimum is in order. 8 is too much, 9 is too much. Heiskanen played on. The hit looked** bad. How we suspending someone 8 games for basically boarding someone that didn't get hurt? Or if you want to say elbowing someone, ok. How do you suspend a playier 8 games for accidently elbowing someone and not injuring them?! That's ridiculous. The only way 8 is an argument is if Heiskanen is actually injured. And he's not. 3 is completely appropriate, solely because the play was stupid and he's big and penalizing hazardous plays 3 games is completely legitimate.

  12. Rempe played 17 NHL games last year and 5 this year. Average ice time is 5:46 minutes. He has 1 goal and 1 assist in those 22 games. He also had 9 major penalties and 4 match penalties. He had one prior 4 game suspension for a similar hit, now he has 8 more games. That’s some record. His sole purpose appears to be to fight or injure players. Why is he still on an NHL roster?????

  13. Rempe should be barred from this league. He's not an enforcer, he's a predator. Has he ever laid a good hit on someone who was actually in a position to defend themselves? Sickening.
