GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Sharks (11.16.24) | Owen Pickering Makes NHL Debut

The Penguins took on the San Jose Sharks tonight in the second half of back-to-back games. Owen Pickering made his NHL debut, and the Penguins welcomed Vasily Ponomarev to his first game in black and gold. The game started off with a bang: Bryan Rust scored the first goal of the night at the 1:01-minute mark. This was quickly followed by a wrist shot from Jesse Puljujarvi, which left the Sharks in a scoreless period. Owen Pickering recorded an assist on Puljujarvi’s tally, giving him his first NHL point. The 2nd period began, and Sidney Crosby scored his 599th career goal. Tyler Toffoli lit the lamp for the Sharks, making the score 3-1. In the final 20 minutes, Granlund scored on a snap-shot. Tyler Toffoli found the back of the net for the second time this game to tie things up. Toffoli’s second tally would be the last goal of regulation. After an overtime where the Penguins had a lot of offensive zone time, things headed to a shootout. Evgeni Malkin scored the shootout game-winning goal to give the Penguins a 4-3 victory.
