Was Brandon Tanev’s Hit On Jarred Tinordi Illegal? | Tim & Friends

Tim, Ken & Elliotte debate whether Tanev deserved to be ejected from the game for his hit on Tinordi and if plays like this should be acceptable in today’s NHL.

  1. The hypocrisy of the masses about this amazes me. Tom Wilson makes this hit and everyone would be crying for him to be suspended for 20 games. A minor instead of a major maybe, but it was a clear charge and the NHL seems to be using the boarding call for different reasons nowadays.

  2. Tanev gets 5 and a match penalty, meanwhile Tom Wilson can break people's face with his shoulder/elbow and doesn't even get a 2. 🤣

  3. Wilson gets 11 more games, clean hit awkward landing period, refs suck nowadays, next its gonna be be if you shoot he puck and someone gets injured its gonna be intent to injure, FU-K

  4. Boston coach was wetting his pants. The refs didn’t even have a arm up. Cassady was whining the very first boarding call. Marhand cross check Blueger in the neck behind the play. Now he’s out weeks. Bergeron was headhunting also. . Bergeron should of got 5 for his hit to Guentzels head.

  5. Hit was proximity to the boards was not…BOARDING PENALTY…
    Tanev KNEW Tinordi was vulnerable…though.
You can stop the guy without blowing him up.

  6. Why dont they just paint a f***ing ring 10 feet in from the boards and say anything inside this dumb***k circle is a hitting zone as to appease those hockey gods sitting in their living rooms

  7. How was that hit different than the hit that Tinordi put on Malkin earlier in the game? The puck was gone, Tinordi charged him and Malkin got hurt. No penalty. Same circumstances. In fact, Malkin was closer to the boards when he got hit than Tinordi was. The difference was that Malkin was in control of his body and his skating motion. Tinordi was trying to make a play that he was incapable of performing given his lack of skill and skating ability. In other words, he was off balance and out of control. So, let's blame the defender for playing hard because his opponent made a terrible decision and lacks the skill to know when to dump the puck earlier and bail out of the play. Let's just put a skirt on him. The league and the officials are ruining the game. Oh, by the way, let Wilson run all over the ice and smash players….. and he is still in the league. Wilson should be taking your order at Burger King. If this continues, hockey is doomed.

  8. I would have called that charging considering he came from opposite boards at his full speed to hit him. Which should have only been a 2 min. penalty. It sucks watching hockey these days considering their is no consistency on how calls are made through out the league. While certain players seem to get a pass on certain plays of illegal activities during the game. Plus people that don’t know the rules of the game shouldn’t have any opinions until you actually understand how a game is played, though that would mean we live in a perfect world where we will never be. Also the game has become so dirty with many cheap shot players with zero enforcers to prevent these dirty plays that the league obviously doesn’t care about

  9. If he didn’t sprint across 2/3rds of the ice? Dude took a run at Tinordi because Tinordi hurt Malkin earlier in the game.

The issue imho is DOPS’ ridiculous inconsistency and whether they really want to get headshots out of the game.

  10. It migth not even be a charge. Tanev let´s up and glides into him before he makes conatct with Tinordi.

  11. That hit is shoulder to chest, 10-15 feet off the boards. If he was hit from behind maybe but he wasnt. That is as textbook a clean hit as they come, I hope the NHL fixes this because I don’t want to watch a league where that is illegal

  12. Textbook bodycheck? Check the rulebook about using extendiing hands while bodychecking! Thats a textbook boarding!

  13. Leafs fan. How was that hit different than the one in the Flames' game where Matthews fell into the boards and hurt his wrist? Both about 10 feet from the boards, both hits on the puck carrier, both awkward falls into the boards causing injury. No penalty (the correct call) in the Leafs' game, five minute major here.

  14. I agree it was clean hit and the hit on Malkin the night before looked exactly the same, but nothing was called and Malkin is now hurt.🤔

  15. Scott Stevens laughing while watching this……… THIS IS A SIGNATURE SCOTT STEVENS CLASSIC…… woulda been on rock em sock Ems top 10 hits of the year

  16. I think it was a bad hit, not because the hit was high, or late, or from behind but look how far tanev skated before making the hit. He was basically full speed from the other side of the rink 20-30 feet away and crushed him into the boards. The only reason he hit the boards was how fast tanev skated into him, so Im fine with the suspension.

  17. The aspiring argument orally lighten because sardine histochemically race besides a assorted font. lamentable, inconclusive multi-hop

  18. This was 100% a make-up call bc these same refs didn't give Wilson even a minor for his hit in Carlo which he was subsequently given a 7 game suspension. I'm a Bruins fan and Tanev's hit was not even a minor. Good hit, Tinordi should have expected that contact. I'm glad thw Bruins did not score on that crap 5 minute penalty.

  19. What a load of bollocks. This is penalty 100%. I would also call charging over boarding, but both calls are easily argued. Not calling this is stupid and I wish people who do not agree to stop watching and commenting hockey.

  20. By the book, it's an obvious boarding call, but the refs messed up by making it a major and a game.

  21. "We don't see charging get called anymore, really" – Friedge
Uhm I guess Friedge hasn't been watching all the Habs games like I have. I've seen like 3 or 4 charging penalties at least. I can't even remember 1 of them that was actually warranted. 🙄

  22. I've always been a bruins fan. Charging? Maybe. Boarding? Absolutely not. I think it was a clean hit, just unfortunate that Tinordi came out of it at a bad angle and got injured. I agree tho, this sport is becoming a soft league.
