Blues fans are a bit mixed over the PO Joseph trade. While we're trying to 'retool' and emphasize a youth movement, our defense has gotten MUCH older with acquiring Ryan Suter (who'll be 40 in January) over the Summer and Cam Fowler (33) just recently. Our current blueline has SIX players that will be 32+ by, or just after, the end of the regular season (including the injured Torey Krug). After Phillip Broberg, we really don't have any top-4 defense candidates under 30 right now who are likely to make a difference in the next year or two, or going forward.
OTOH, Joseph was looking like he'd never be much more than a depth defenseman here (or possibly anywhere else) and he'll at least get some playing time back in Pittsburgh. It's a shame he couldn't have stayed to play in the Winter Classic with his brother, which would have been cool, but Pittsburgh may have insisted that they wanted the deal done before the trade freeze. The move also clears the way to reactivate Nick Leddy without sending anyone through waivers. If Leddy's fully healthy and playing up to his ability, he's definitely better than Joseph right now.

Matheson would have to be traded to leave during free agency, he’s under contract through next season. This move addresses the imminent pre-deadline Savard deal more than anything
Yep, play the kid on 3rd line with nobodies, no PP time, a game or two on 1st or 2nd line and he's a bust. LOL He is going to be an extremely good 2 way player once a team gives him 18-20mins every night.

Kakko never had a chance. The rangers forced him to focus on his bad defense out of the gate and then dropped him down the lineup when the points didn’t come. I would’ve loved him in Philly but there was no way New York was dealing him in division
Man, I was hoping the blues would land Kakko. Fowler is nice but he’s a little old for a team going thru a “retool”
Carrier fits in Montréal for now cause most of the Right Defenseman in the prospect pool are either injured or in developpement. He's stable and it's got to help, it kinda replace what Harris was bringing last year but on the Right, so it's better Montréal doesn't lack left defense…

kakko never even had a chance to develop on the rangers they did such a bad job with him. Actually so happy he got traded he actually has a chance to develop properly now. Zibanejad is the reason Laf and kakko haven’t been able to develop well. Zibanejad should not ever be on the top pp again unless he somehow has a miracle comeback to form

Drury is diminishing the NYR organization. This trade is just the beginning.
I think the interpretation is false that Kakko got traded shortly after he made negative comments, therefore the comments had something to do with the fast trade. I could be wrong, but I think trades of that magnitude are considered not within days, but weeks or months.
Kk had a lot of opportunity in NY and never delivered.

Kakko is a good prospect in a bad team. And he’s right it’s weird benching him, not mr -17 or whatever that’s constantly in the lineup. Ranchers are a joke of a franchise.
My problem with the Rangers deal is that they held onto Kakko too long didnt develop him and ultimately took on a cap dump for Kakko and only got a 3rd and a 6th while taking on a bad contract for Kakko. I dont think its the worst deal but the way the Rangers and Drury are handling their business in the media and obviously in big markets a lot more stuff is public but Drury clearly had his ego bruised and rashly traded 1 of the guys that was no where near the problem in NYR and doesnt make aby statement to the team of accountability as Kakko was 1 of their better players this season especially in terms of effort

carrier is insurance for when the habs move savard. now we still have a veteran on RD. matheson isn't UFA in 2025, he's 2026. that said, i'd still trade him, because he's at peak value and we have hutson to do what he does.
