I have to disagree with your assessment of this game specifically. Yes the Leafs got outshot, but they really shut down Dallas in the 2nd and most of the third. Most of Dallas' shots were not dangerous in that span as well. I would prefer the shots be closer but the game was pretty good overall.
You got it backwards its Jolly Wolly!
Those of you who have watched Mchale's Navy will know what im referencing XD
If they can win when playing like this, imagine when they get it all together and play their best game. Hopefully this is what the coach is working on. He knows you can’t play 82 games and be your best every game. But if can win playing like this and then have your best games at the end of the regular season. Think of Boston a few years back best season ever! Did they win the cup? No! We will see if this will work, but after watching them before they won the cup in 1967, I hope this is the year. Go Leafs Go!
William Nylander has three speeds: here, there, and gone!
Marner needs to get away from Matthews. He floats and leaves the work to Matty when they play together. Put him on with Kamp lol They play well together.
Man, I miss Steve's Dang-Its and Hat-Picks…sportsnet GIVE Steve a contract for JUST those vids!
When Leafs play down to teams, they win now 👏
Can we please appreciate the gravity of what’s happening here? The third line, made up of 3 players being reamed by the fanbase for their lack of production, have 5 combined goals in 2 games since being matched together. As long as they keep getting it done, you do not touch that line. You give them all the game minutes you can justify
The leafs are 18-0 after holding the lead after 40…
Loving the NHL goal visualizer in leu of footage. Gives a better picture than just screenshots, though I wouldn't mind seeing some screenshots as well. Keep up the great work, Steve. From a Wings fan.
What happened to the Marlie Minute?!
They’re playing a lot like the 2013 leafs
I think Berubes comment about Willies breakaways was a backhanded compliment about how much he hangs out in the neutral zone waiting for a breakout pass instead of helping with defence.
I would really love to see a more in depth break down of these games where the leafs are being out shot and still winning. Are they defensively limiting high danger chances against? Are they limiting low danger shots for and maximizing high danger shots? Are the shot attempts closer because the leafs are missing the goal entirely more often? Are the goalies actually just stealing games? The eye test often doesn't look like they are being massively out played or dominated even though the shots for and against suggests that, so i really wonder if the answer is that in hockey any one sog is not always equal to another.
Why did you clog the toilet bro
Look around the league, is there a team without a pile of injuries? Seems every game lately some significant player is out for something or other. Leafs arent alone.
MVP was Adam Wylde
The Matthews line were on the ice for 3 of the Stars goals.
WAM line – Wake me up before you go-GOAL!!
Kansas City Chiefs style hockey.
MaxP and Tavares had some good chemistry at the start of the year before MaxP got injured. I don't mind giving that second line some more time to figure it out.
Im a fan of both with dallas being my home team- So manytimes i told myself "id be so much madder if it was against anyone else"
It's absolutely ridiculous that the super line thing hasn't been given a chance for an extended period of time in 9 fn years. Basic coaching – those type of players are A) too good to not make it work B) they're too greedy and need their cookies to not make it work.
I think about it like this.. every team is going to get outplayed some nights. If the leafs are able to win some of those games as well as the ones where they outplay the opponent they will ultimately win more games and be more successful
They say the sign of a good team is finding a way to win despite being outplayed. I'm GRASPING onto that!
Idk Woll made that great save and was his usual steady self rest of time and clearly kept them in the game but after the 2-0 lead was cut in half – I wasn’t blown away by the Stars play. A below 3.0 GAA for the team does impress me But ya, they gotta play bettter.
Leafs play like garbage for 10 games and win like 7. Nashville has leads in like 5 straight and loses all of them 🤦♂️yeah that's hockey 🤷♂️
Woll saved Rielly's bacon ALL game, the backing in, screening, stick waving, flopping Rielly, and yet you NEVER mention that. Why?
I will say those lines had very clear identities. First line: four nations all stars
2nd line: monstars that all have above average skill.
3rd line: the spare parts that combined add up to the perfect player lol
4th line: goon squad

The aim has always been playoff success. If they have a system that wins games with only moderate effort from the team, that seems like good preparation for the playoffs – get in the habit of winning, and stay more fresh.
