I'm not even a fan, but still – it has been absolutely baffling to witness just how hard the Rangers have fallen off the rails. It is completely and undeniably obvious to everyone with at least half a brain that the players (even the ones underperforming, which Kakko honestly wasn't) aren't the main issue here – not by a long shot. Sooo much wasted potential. What a shame.
The main problem with NHL and more and more the teams here in the Nordic countries is that the teams more and more becoming big corporations instead of a sports team where the money is the main thing that matters and it is more and more becoming just an entertainment than the game. One of these days people will realize this and abandon the areanas. Sports is about strive and emosion not just to be streamlined enough to cash in a loads of money.
Rangers FO broke the team, when they basically did Goodrow dirty. And followed up with Trouba. They have created an athmosphere against performance. It`s their top guys not bringing it, Zib, Kreider, Trockeck, Chytil – Trouba, Lindgren. There might be a structural issue as their offensive core ages and was rebuild before the D, there`s a lack of veteran D men though Fox and Co. are experienced. There`s no reason why this team should be in such a bad shape, Kreider, Zib, Trocheck are 33 respective 31 and should not yet decline.
I have no idea why NYR FO started tearing the team down, especially over a contract like Goodrows for 3,6m. Trouba was a cap grave for his 8m, but the way they handled it was horrible. This team is broken because the FO did mess around, and their core doesn`t bring it right now.
As a Kraken fan, love this for us. Borgen is a solid stay-at-home defenseman, but he's no Kakko. Brutal for the Rangers and their fans, I feel bad. Maybe this is their "payback" for somehow managing to dump Trouba's contract AND get assets in return lmao. Cheers.
