  1. Hey 86👌🥊,Good to see Choynski getting a bit of a shout out, not many know about this solid fighter but most know Jack Johnson 👍

  2. Choynski was one of the stars of boxing in the 1890s and he later opened a gym where he taught the sweet science. Considering he usually weighed below the light heavyweight limit he packed a helluva punch.

  3. This time in jail with Joe Choynski was CRITICAL to Jack,s professional development. Joe had spent time years before with The Great Peter Jackson!

  4. Choynski actually took a liking to Jack and I believe became his manager. ( not sure about that) But he did tell Jack, while behind bars, that " a man of your size and speed should never get hit with anything serious." ( not an exact quote) Joe was brought in to " wipe the smile of the arrogant negro." But the two legends became friends. Funny how trying to knock a man's head off leads to lifelong friendships.
Joe is a forgotten legend and in recent years, followers of Johnson have tried to claim it was a set up. Clearly it was not or Jack would have gotten revenge in jail. Whatever the truth, Johnson himself always credited Choynski. That is respect.
