Ryan Reaves was given a match penalty for this hit to the head of Darnell Nurse. Does Reaves target the head or does Nurse not do enough to protect himself? Have your say!
nonintentional but still a game and 3-5 game suspension for how it played out, both players could've done things differently to ensure their safety, I'm surprised Nurse wrapped around the net like that with his head down but it's on the player making the hit nonetheless
1 game. Nurse was looking down at the puck, Reeves made no attempt elevate the hit, hit with his shoulder. But it went wrong. Then maybe a consideration:!
Dont Circle the fucking net with your head down, reaves doesn't leave feet or even elevate…the hit is shoulder level, half second earlier or later it's 'clean'
This hit would have been totally legal had Reaves crouched down and gone through Nurse's body instead of lifting upward and taking off his head as he did here. The video replay shows that Reaves actually missed most of Nurse's body on this terrible hit, which is ridiculous. This deserves a long-term suspension.
Leafs fan. I don't think Reavo was trying to injure. He certainly wanted to check him hard. Remember the 80s, you would get crushed for skating with your head down. And people would shrug.
It looked like a shoulder to shoulder to me. Darnell was focusing on possesing the puck!! So of course his head is down and didnt see it coming. We know Reaves enough power moves to hit players, cuz thats what he does. Now I watched a few times. Reaves speeded toward him and he skated into the hit. I dunno whos at fault here.
5 minutes and a game misconduct … I would say probably 5 game suspension if no history … but based on his past … 8 games. In reality the NHL and players make money from violence so he will probably get 1 to 2 game suspension.
Yes Nurse could have kept his head up. But Reaves also should have seen that his head was down enough and NOT risked a headshot off that hit. Plus, Reaves is a repeat offender. That's an ugly, dirty, reckless play and he should cop a suspension and a fine for it.
Really hard to watch Nurse obviously concussed and bleeding out his eye, especially coming off the back of his 3 point game against the Preds. Hope he's doing alright
The Reaves’ hit was vicious, dangerous, unnecessary and very much suspension-worthy. TBD will be to what extent, if any, the NHL Player Safety Department agrees.
The fact that Nurse served himself up for that hit puts even MORE onus on Reeves to keep it clean in my opinion. How do you go shoulder to jaw like that when the player is wide open for shoulder to shoulder contact. 5-10 in my opinion , he’s been suspended before including for a hit to the head. The only thing you could possibly say on Reeves behalf is that he did seem to make some attempt to get his stick on the puck.
This looks like bad timing from Reaves. His shoulder was at shoulder height, and didn’t significantly elevate; he was only set up well for this hit if he got Nurse’s shoulder though, and he missed, and got all head. He should miss time for this one. I won’t argue with whatever the league gives him, but I think this might be the worst head hit of the season, so I’d expect a fair chunk of games.
I can't feel sorry for Nurse at all, I've seen him take runs at people to injure them for legally hitting him, cross check people as hard as he can in their back to injure them because again he couldn't handle being legally hit, seen him cross check a player in the numbers sending the star player head first into the boards. And watching this he had his head down the whole time, it's like watching Brad Marchand getting what he deserves.
When the Winnipeg player was in face off circle and gets cross checked in the face the hockey panel on tv says that’s fine why is everyone one in a up roar
I see reeves play the puck and they collide?? Unfortunate the contact was to the head, but seriously it’s hockey?!? No intention to hurt the guy just skated through him. Keep your head up. The Games getting too soft.
Lindros v Stevens 1998, all head should be just as harsh, can't cater to snowflakes but Reaves didn't crouch for a body hit he went all upper aiming for that head.
There is no excuse for that type of hit. Reaves wasn't even trying to be careful. I can understand why it happened though–Nurse is a cheap shot artist himself and you reap what you sow. Still, it should have never happened.
You can see that reaves was going for the puck with his stick and with that momentum of lunging for the puck with his stick came with his left shoulder following through trying to make a play for the puck so it was not intentional hit to nurses head
Reaves played the puck, the contact afterwards was incidental. Nurse leans forward, leads with his head and changes his trajectory last second. If he stayed along the boards like everyone learns in PeeWee, he would've been fine.
Ryan Reaves is 6'2", Darnell Nurse is picking up speed coming out from behind the net. Clearly Nurse is more interested in where the puck is and looking down at the ice. Keep your head up! The initial contact from Reaves was shoulder to Nurses body. Still a very nasty result with blood spilt and Nurse dazed. The only difference between this hit and the Matthew Knies hit from Whitecloud is Knies did not bleed, and Whitecloud left his feet. Also there is a long history with Reaves and George Parros and the Leafs (Colton Orr). Parros is so biased and is not fit to be in the position he holds for far to long. Whitecloud didnt even get a penalty. We need to start a petition to get Parros removed or at the very least stand up and take questions on your decisions.
10 guys skating around and Darnel is intently focused on the puck. I’ve seen that check before without consequences but yes I wouldn’t want to be hit that hard.
Head contact absolutely was he head hunting absolutely NOT reaves was playing the puck coming in hard … the collision is unfortunate I don’t believe there should be a suspension …. Hockey is very much contact and fist fighting and full contact bullying teams into submission… you’ll need to change the complete premise of the game of hockey to completely elite these unfortunate incidents. To pick out any specific hit to scrutinize is unfair to players that have taught to forecheck hit and fight to win!

Nurse probably doesn’t know what day it is after that hit. 5 games probably, appealed down to 3. When do they play each other again?

Head contact by Reaves is 100% avoidable. Terrible decision by Reaves. What is he thinking? He should get at least 5 games for this.
A hit too the head, Reavo is going to be suspended! A speedy and full recovery, for Darnell.

Yes bad hit by Reaves, nurse needs to keep his head up like you guys said. Hope he is ok.

When you keep your head down and don’t pay attention you might just get smacked. That’s why we teach the kids to keep your head up

0 games clean hit, keep your head up bud

20 games.
Its not quite Steve Downie on Dean McCammon but its not too far off it either….
5-10 game and I think he’ll get more cause it’s reeves. Absolutely ridiculous hit.
I LOVED it SOOOOOO much! It's called KARMA Nurse, you cheap shot prick. WHEW…..I feel so much better now. 🙂
irrelevant whether Darnell could've avoided it or not. Reeves lifts into the hit, intentionally aiming for the head. All other notions are irrelevant.
Old hockey clean hit but new hockey bad hit got not go head anymore more put player out had change rule so not end player career early .

Nurse could have looked up at any time
Seems similar to the Jeanotte hit on boeser. Probably three games if he isn’t a repeat offender, otherwise 5
Dirty
Adam Henrique no call Heads up!!

10 times worse than anything Rempe has done and yet I feel like he’ll get off with 2 games.
If the hit was lower it would have been earth shaking but legal. Does Nurse do that ofen carrying the puck with his head down?

Reaves actually took swipe at puck you dont see that on suspension hits ????

Look at old school hockey. That was nothing
Accidental contact to the head. He did leave his feet. Not malicious imo especially considering how much taller Nurse is.
Intentional
