Are the Boston Bruins Back? | Bruins Game 22 Recap
The Boston Bruins won 2-1 in the second game of the Joe Sacco era, and they looked good. Merkulov was sent back down to Providence, and Jeremy Swayman got the start. Is David Pastrnak gripping his stick a little too tight?
As always, I’ll cover the highs and lows of the Boston Bruins game and give my thoughts, and as always, I want to hear from you as well.

What did you think of the game?
Well, the upside is that they won back to back games giving up only 1 goal, but are they "back"? Hardly. They still are plagued by poor goal production. 3 goals in two games won't get them very far when they go up against the better teams. This has been a problem for a few years now, they need one or two more snipers to complement their fine defense. You can't win consistently if you can't score. They need more offense!
No no no…. settle down yall. Let's give it a full ten games before we jump the gun on "are the bruins back" crap!!!
My highlights are always coming here to get my buddies opinion win or lose.
The biggest thing that happened was that the team didn't fall apart after the late goal in the 1st. Maybe these small steps will build some momentum until the offense gets going.
I really liked the atmosphere at this game. This one felt like an NHL game from like 10 years ago for some reason. I’ve always liked the RedWings and their dedicated fanbase. Letting the refs hear it for the bad icing call. Then Marchand, in classic villain form, cashing in with the go-ahead goal. He celebrates, the crowd’s furious. The Wings press hard to try and even it, but the B’s hold ’em off. Even if Detroit had won this game was fun to watch. This is exactly what an NHL game should be.
The team won 2 games by the skin of their teeth. They only scored 3 goals in those 2 wins. We'll gladly take the wins but barely scraping by against extremely weak opponents is concerning. Vancouver won't be so easy and you know DeBrusk is likely to score. They are going to need more than 2 goals to win.
By the way, any relation to the Wings' head coach? lol
Improved motivation and tight defense- you can see it last two games
No
The biggest highlight for me was the last 2:00 of the game. A questionable call on Marchand. But,to see them kill a 6 on 4. That was a nail biter. Another great thing is that Florida lost “again” (3 in a row). With everything that’s been happening these past 22 games they’re right up there with 60 games to go. I’m glad Monty got picked back up by the blues. Coaches are definitely a dime a dozen.
A powerplay goal. Penalty kill shuts down 5th ranked powerplay. Defense continues to be aggressive at our blueline and not just let opponents enter at will. Goaltending was solid. Keep this up and despite our lack of offense we have a chance. Surely these secondary scoring people will wake up at some point? I feel like Zacha has been playing strong along with Geekie. Coyle & Fredrick remain lukewarm at best. Just keep pounding away I guess.
Also…..about time they threw Johnson on the second powerplay unit FFS lol
Ship is righting. There was an intensity in this one. Still room for improvement (we are talking Detroit), and we will get there if Joe keeps them motivated and disciplined.
The hockey speed has increased. The PK just came back. The PP works sometimes. SOGs are up. The huge defensive gaps seem to have evaporated. And there are a few other positives. All that at once. Personally, I believe it had to do with coaching. They have not played for Monty since the FLA series…when they were told that the refs do a great job after their captain was punched out for a few and the Pasta fight. (Monty was desperately trying to get them back into the game after being beaten up to avoid another exit…out-coached, again.) Bottom line: what we've seen over the past two games looks like a different team. And they are not far out…really need a winning streak right now.
How about that long zone to zone slot pass from zadorov to i think it was pasta? My lord dont tease us fans with moments of brilliance like that……Brad scoring looked like brad in his prime! Having personal experiance in my family with hip surgeries I didnt expect him to even wanna go this season after all he has given! If this team goes to the cup ill eat my own poop on live tv!
Before I start the video… I'm hoping to hear that you noticed Pasta being a complete buffoon with the puck AGAIN. I stopped counting his offensive zone turnovers at 6. I cannot be the only person that wants him to be traded. I don't think I'm being harsh or unfair. Just to put this in perspective, David Pastrnak is paid *$140,000.00* PER GAME. That is what most of us earn in TWO YEARS!—
T W O F U C K I N G Y E A R S! So, forgive me for getting upset when I watch him play like a lazy guss. For that amount of money, I would at least play like I had some respect for the game and for my team and my fans.
I know hockey. I'm almost 40. I grew up in northern Maine on the Canadian border, playing hockey on ponds with my cousins and friends and I played on the school teams. I've watched almost every Bruins game since 1994. I even watched Jeremy Swayman when he was playing in Orono. After all these years, I've never seen a player turn the puck over repeatedly like Pasta. If we played like that on our school team, meaning if we turned the puck over, made bad passes, didn't play like part of the team, the coach would throw us a few packs of those hand warmers. This meant, ''Put those in your gloves so you don't get cold, because you're not leaving that bench. You will watch quietly for the rest of the period. When we go inside for the break, I want you to tell us why I made you stay on the bench.'' He made it so clear to us, that if we wanted to play on a team, we had to play AS A TEAM. If we were puck hogs, or we tried to be fancy and flashy, and made a mistake that hurt the team, the hand warmers flew across the bench at us and we knew the drill. After 2 years under that coach, our team went from a joke, to a team that could beat anyone. We used to go into New Brunswick and Quebec to play Canadian teams that were better funded and much more serious, and we would kick their asses… because we played as a team.
If you are getting double teamed, it automatically means that one of your team members is open, and you immediately send the puck to the open player. I understand that it's easier said than done. He's a pro – I get it. But for someone to get paid so much that they could work a few days in a week, and have enough on Friday to buy a brand new house and an Audi R8 in cash, I simply expect better. Why is he making such basic, fundamental mistakes – ALL THE TIME?! I played in a rag-tag school team on a shitty outdoor rink in East Bumfuck Maine, and even we knew better than to not turn the puck over like complete fool.
Anyway.. rant over. I won't bring this up again. It's just after seeing this happen repeatedly for years, I get very annoyed.
Great game, lots of turnovers, more shots on goal, big hits, good defense, exactly what we wanna see
They won't be back until they can score some goals.
I really Like Coach Sacco, his positivity, the way he Bruins are responding to him.👍 They seem more like themselves and I'm hoping all kinks will get worked out. I believe they've turned the corner, put the ugly start behind them.👏👋👋. They're starting believe in each other again and working together. It doesn't mean they won't lose or play inconsistently, but I thought Coach Montgomery is a fine coach but he lost the room and had to go. He was just signed the Blues , another underperforming team like the B's were and I bet he turns them around.😛. No harm, No Foul , don't listen to the B's haters trying to dump on us for letting him go. Gooo B's 🎉
Glad to see the guys playing a more disciplined brand of hockey. Go B's!
You nailed it. Bruins needed to get back to team defensive structure. I thought Johnson looked good mostly because he’s smart with the puck. Hate to say it but a lot of nhl players don’t have that.
It’s moving in the right direction, Fire Neely and Sweeney, you can see that in the improvement in the two games. B’s are forcing the opponent to the outside, decreasing high scoring chances (expect that last goal, right in the middle), Fire Neely and Sweeney, but an improvement. And the PK was great last night and the man advantage was getting more chances, steps. Moving in the right direction, Fire Neely and Sweeney for the trade deadline.
What was your dads name? Ik he was a bruin but you never talk about him. You should make a video dedicated to him and his career.
they usually lose in detroit. remember when monty was hired by Bs he said they would score more goals. they did for a couple years. this team needs to play simple shoot and crash the net and retrieve loose pucks. and have a puck luck in. next coach will score more. lol
The bruins played defense first, this last game. The PK was great, they didnt take that many PIM (except johnson 4 mins).
One great thing was sacco kept the lines the same!
Pasta had two amazing chances and blew both of them.
I do love seeing them shooting more!
There were a couple odd man rushes. mcavoy is still not up to speed at all.
I loved their composure in the second period after giving up a goal late in the first period. The Power Play is starting to show signs of life and the Penalty Kill looks comfortable killing penalties. Yeah, I know it’s only two games but it’s been two games of improvement. Zadorov looks more comfortable and Marchy is picking it up. There’s hope and I think they’re seeing it. It’s always interesting to see how rearranging the same puzzle pieces can make everything work. We’ll see but it looks good so far. Vancouver will be a good test.
I was at the game and my favorite part was how mad the Red Wings fans were when Marchand got the game winner 😂
5 on 5 scoring is still a major concern. Energy level looks better, and Sawyman really needed this result.
Let's see how they go against an above 500 team.
Bruins often lose when they play in Detroit, so coming away with a win is a big positive.
I just wanna say, as a die hard bruins fans I love your content and it makes my day. I think these past 2 games they have played well and many players are under performing. I think if Swayman can get his swagger back, and Pasta and E. Lindholm can get going and Zadorov can stay out of the box the team will surprise us fans.
I always loved the Korpi trade. We got Korpi and he is performing better than both Sway and Ullmark rn. Also Ottawa gave the same money to Ullmark and the bruins held out against Sway, but compared to Korpi in Ottawa he is worse than he was. Also I would like to add that Korpi holds the NHL save record and is a good goaltender. He found his game and I’m happy for him. Once Korpi is comfortable you see him play well like he did in Columbus. He is playing well and I think he can even play better
Johnson is a much better and smarter player. He brings some much needed experience!
Ask me the same question in two weeks.I hope that you and your family are doing well 🇨🇦🐈🍺🏒👻.
Boys liked like they believed in themselves which is huge. Not a big win but we just need to keep building.
Definitely my high light of the game was Swayman becoming his old self followed closely by getting more that 1 goal in a game.
Another good one, they're taking control a little more each game, still optimistic ! Three games in four nights, a real test ahead.
Why haven’t we seen Potra back?
The Bruins are too old and too slow. You can thank Sweeney for that. They can't beat a top 10 team. They just won 2 games over 2 weak teams. That's not on the coach.. They will lose to Vancouver, unless Korpi is in net. They are playing the next 6 games against bottom 10 teams. If they lose even 1 of those games, they won't make the playoffs. Swayman is not a Top 10 goalie. You can't blame the D for him giving up 3.3 goals per game.
Ummm, no. Every period ends with poor play and great chances from the opposition. Pasta is playing like he's older than Ovechkin, and the lines just aren't jelling.
Nope. It's a garage fire.
Still need far more scoring output
Diehard fan here we all know they they been short of offence talent for a long time ,they still have done really well though
This was expected. Every time a team switches coaches, they play a little better. However, talent always wins out and its something the Bruins lack. Sttill just a .500 team. Absolutely no scorers, except for Pasternak.
