Leon Draisaitl is the NHL’s BEST Player

Leon Draisaitl has had a generational season so far for the Edmonton Oilers. His on-ice impacts are the best we have ever seen from him in Oil Country, and if it were up to me he would be my early Hart, Ted Lindsay, and Selke winner. Let’s discuss everything to do with Leon Draisaitl this season (so far). #oilers #edmontonoilers #nhl

  1. He probably is tbh. His puck possession is crazy, 1 timer, best passer, goal scoring, defence has been good too. For me I would say #1 centre in the NHL, top 3 player in the NHL.

  2. I'm pretty sure that you said last night before the game. That the oilers would lose said game. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. But please continue.

  3. Oilers all want to win. But no more then drai and McDavid. Drai wants McDavid to stay and knows if they lose its less likely he wants to sign long term.

  4. Could we get a similar breakdown for McDavid? Would be nice to see how these change at the half way, 3/4 and end of season too 😊

  5. Leon has a superior hockey IQ and grit that McD.

McD can do things at top speed no one else can do.

    Leon can play with anyone.

    McD can't.

  6. To be fair a lot of Russian/European players don’t get the credit they deserve but this is looking like a career year for #29.

  7. Yes, over the past month, but other than that no. He is the best goal scorer on his team, his passing is a little ahead of mcdavid also, other than that mcdavid is better in basically every important category.

  8. I love that you said " advanced stats " and REAL stats . Try making wagers using analytics and you'll the unexpected happens more often than expected . Only real stats of things that actually happened make sense

  9. I get a kick out of people that choose when to and not to recognize +/- as a legitimate stat based on what narrative they're looking to push. It's a legitimate stat, period. It's straight up means that he was on the ice at even strength for a goal for or against. People try to use the argument that he could have just gotten on the ice, and didn't factor into the play at all, but that would be a very small % of the instances. It of course doesn't factor in how much he had to do with the goal for or against, but if a player is a consistent + player, that means that generally good things happen more often when he's on the ice, then bad things.

  10. You talked about faceoffs for a second, and it reminded me of an idea I had to track faceoffs better: Faceoff MMR/ELO like a ranked video game. It takes into account how highly ranked the opponent is in the circle when it gives/takes rank points for the faceoff. So if a 500MMR players beats an 800MMR player, they get more points for the win and the other player loses more points for losing to a lower ranked player. I think that's way better than a straight percentage, and ends up being more like a power ranking.

  11. All we have to hope for is that the Oilers make the playoffs with the important players healthy, Drai is proving that he's more clutch than ever when they need a goal and we know that the nerves of the playoffs don't get in the way for him.

  12. I've always felt like Draisaitl looks like some kind of fucking big animal when he skates, must be absolutely terrifying to face when he's red hot like this. Imagine if he wasn't banged up in the finals and played even half as well as he's playing right now we would've had that cup. Oh MAN gotta get over that shit right now! πŸ˜… McDavid is still my favorite player though but Draisaitl is a close second

  13. My Homer pick for best/most important player so far is Quinn Hughes, based on his corsi numbers being even more lopsided than draisaitl’s in many places, and the way he controls the entire game.

That said, I fully recognize how ridiculously good Draisaitl is and has been this year.

  14. Man, Leon is my favorite πŸ’ player and I think he's the 2nd best player in the game(imo). I also did not know just how good he's been this year, this is impressive and Leon deserves all the attention that comes his way and more attention from NHL. He's likable and funny too!
He's SO much fun to watch!

  15. Enough already. These β€œbest” discussions start with how many cups. Leon and Connor have the tools but with out the hardware it means very little.

  16. Leon's been my favorite player. I recognized right away that he was special. Leon's backhand is second to none in the history of the game.
