Should Calvin Pickard be the Oilers starter?

Calvin Pickard stopped 26 of 27 shots as he grabbed the win against the Nashville Predators. Begging us to ask the question, should Calvin Pickard be the 1A goaltender for the Oilers moving forward?

  1. To be fair to skinnner, we just play better in front of pickard. Also I feel like you can give picksrd the net without it necessarily being a bad thing for stu, he’s a gamer he wants to win too so why ruin something going well?

  2. Play him until he sucks, then play Skinner. That’s why you have two goalies. Play whoever is hot. Rinse and repeat

  3. What I've been saying for 10 months now, is that Pickard should be getting regular starts, and be put into a position for compete for #1. People calling Pickard a backup when he's been playing better then Skinner since.. all along, sure miss the point. The same people who still cut down Pickard and treat Skinner if he was a phenom just in a slump, are mostly the same people who ran Koskinen out of town to get Campbell. Thank God knob finally woke up to that fact, instead of just using Skinner no mater how bad he's playing.

  4. Maybe give skinner a few games against the “lesser” teams for a bit get his confidence back. If he still slides vs these teams yes keep him as the backup

  5. Pickard is a good backup goalie. Play him 50% of the time until Skinner shows that he can play well consistently. If that doesn't happen, then there's one more item for the trade deadline. Pushing Pickard to be the "designated starter", or "1A" is too much to ask.

  6. They've got a 1B/2A situation going on. There is no starter right now, you just balance both their schedules based on the opponent.

  7. Pickard is not our starter!
I think we need to take a step back and support our starters instead of throwing them under the bus as soon as the back ups play good for a few games. Like we have for the few years. Having said that start Pickard in Calgary, bring Stew home to play NJ

  8. Picks has the same team in front of him, and has played significantly better.
Stu has earned nothing but some bench time.
Big problem with starting Stu in BOA is if he stinks it up, it’s hard to put Picks in knowing he’s playing the next night, and likely again on Wednesday. With that being said, you have to give Stu the easier of the two.
From here on, it’s time to ride the hot goalie. Picks is hot right now. Play him until Stu proves he’s ready to play with some consistency again.

  9. I love how some people put down skinner then put down pickard when we loose. There not perfect but there both great goalies that can get better. The d infront of them hasn't been very helpfull till the preds game. Its a team wright. I'm happy who ever starts.

  10. Skinner is too inconsistent, you never feel completely at ease with him in the net and can’t figure out what he’s thinking at times. Once the opposing team gets a goal he lets another one in soon after almost every single time… need to strengthen the mental game and there should be a consequence for being so inconsistent. Picard played well last game and earned it imo
