  1. ok, you have us in hockey. come see us in basketball, football, baseball, even soccer and we'll put your ass to shame. and you cant deny the fact that this was a great moment in olympic hockey history.

  2. Brianca – let me try to peacefully explain this to you. I was old enough to see this game and understand the politics surrounding it. You are looking at it from the angle of Herb Brooks which was "it's just a hockey game, why can't that be good enough" while everyone else saw another battle in the Cold War. It was truly a David/Goliath thing when you take into account the Soviets were unbeaten for nearly 20 years. Canada has a great hockey heritage but this one game was bigger than the sport.

  3. Why? At some point you might want to move on from a lengthy youtube argument that "no one cares [about] anymore." We get it, Canada is very good at hockey and has a huge history.

Also, do you know what the "Olympic Truce" is? I believe that a game can represent a hell of a lot. Measuring a country's worth, skill, dominance, whatever you want it to mean…. is not what the olympics are about, nor was this game to a lot of Americans.

  4. @sSean McGuire I'm from California we had a very strong season were not bad at hockey it's just not as common to see SoCal NHL players look at Emerson etem he's from long beach

  5. this guy has made a living off this goal 33years ago, thats why he never played again he realized he would never ever score a bigger goal.hey he has milked it this long and will for another 30years.

  6. Brianna as an American and an aspiring sports historian we do not proclaim This game to be a victory over communism nor do we see it as a measure of America's worth. If you actually read gooeys comment she says exactly the same thing as me. They were saying this game meant a lot to America because at the time America was not in Avery good state emotional with the Iran hostage crisis exorbitant gas prices. This game gave America a reason to smile and be happy for one day.

  7. Having done research on these Olympics for a masters paper, even Canadian newspaper articles were saying rock on USA. Not because of capitalism vs communism but because it allowed the nation to smile. Oh and not a good idea to bring up 72. Why? Because leading up to that series Eagleson said if we don't win this series 8 games to 0 it is a national disgrace. 3 wins 2 losses and 3 ties doesn't match that.

  8. Also Canada did in fact politicize the crap out of the 72 summit series. Many Canadian newspapers called the Canadian victory exactly what you accuse the Americans of doing in LP calling it a victory over communism. As someone who has read papers, seen documentaries, takn classes on the bloody thing the summit series was politicized way the crap more than lake placid was. Seriously get of your high horse Canada

  9. I vaguely remember this.  My family was watching this, or more correctly, it was on in the living room and my Father was watching it.  He was really excited about this goal.  I asked him why.  I'll never forget what he said…."This is like a high school football team beating the Steelers!"    This will never happen again.  It was a unbelievable!

  10. It was the greatest coaching job of all time ….. and the kids did it !!! Most amazing sports event of the 20th century, biggest upset of all time in all of sports… most significant victory ever because it revitalized a nation…

  11. My dad and I had season tickets to the Toledo Goaldiggers in 1978. Mike was on that team that won the Turner Cup. Great memories.

  12. What people today born years later would never know or understand is how in the dumps the country was with Jimmy Carter in the White House. It was a depressing time, and this came brought tears, and a level of joy to a lot of people. Now, before you go chastising me about Jimmy Carter, understand, I think he is an honorable, and good man. But he was a terrible, terrible president.

  13. I prefer this call to Michael's call on this glorious goal. Al should have told his color guy to stop yammering about "Jim Craig having to make too many saves" as Eruozione scoops up the puck and wrists it to take the lead.

  14. That was just unbelievable! I still get goosebumps watching after all these years. I was 19 years old. Holding onto the lead for The last 10 mins of that game for the win seemed to last 10 hours.

  15. I will never forget that as long as I breath. It buried our shame from Vietnam and brought us forward as a country. It restored our pride as Americans and beat a team that could not lose. Rip to Mark Pavelich. Those of us who saw this will never forget it…

  16. Well that was about as exciting as watching to caterpillars mate😄
Just kiddin hockey fans, I just could never get into the game personally. This popped up and I decided to watch it…although I must admit it was better than anything modern day where sports has been politicized to the point of cringe.

  17. That DANCE by Eruzione!
It remains the most emotional thing Ive ever seen in sports.
Every fiber of his being was delirious.

    Thats a forever moment.

  18. The radio call is brilliant because as soon as Eruzione (at 0:12) gets the puck on his stick you can hear the excitment rise in the play-by-play guy's voice.

  19. People don't know just how amazingly unlikely this win was. This was like a middle school football team taking on the 1986 Chicago Bears. That's how incredible it was.
