Max Domi signed a four-year deal worth $15 million this offseason with the Leafs. However, the 29-year old forward has yet to score a goal this season and he hasn’t recorded a point in 12 games which is the longest slump of his career. TSN’s Hockey analyst Mike Johnson discusses if this is just a dry spell or a big problem for the team, and shares his thoughts on if this year’s Leafs are better suited to stop star players and good teams.

The Leafs have this season had too many passengers, Domi included. Whether that means the Leafs this weekend beat the Oilers remains TBD.
Who Cares
Domi does two things well. He can skate and is good on the draw. That’s it. He is a huge defensive liability, makes low percentage passes all over the ice, only has one move to the net with that leg lift, I don’t think he has a ton of hockey smarts and he turns the puck over most of the time. He looks lost most of them time in the defensive zone. Always a step behind what is going on. How the staff keeps putting this guy into the top 6 is beyond me. If you have Domi playing on the top 6 of any team in the NHL, you are not going to go deep. At this point in his career he looks like a good AHL player. Maybe he will find a hockey IQ, but I have my doubts.
Leafs should have consulted Claude Julien about Domi. At the time, Julien was heaping praise on Suzuki; how smart he was, defensive awareness, etc. Then he was asked about Domi and all Julien said was, "Well, he can skate around."

I Watched him play Junior A with the Knights and saw holes in his game. Solid skater and amazing skills without any pressure (shinny type). The money would have been way better spent on retaining Bertuzzi. Only puts up 9 goals playing with Mathew’s and Nylander ? He is one of the weakest top 6 forwards in the League.. put him on waivers and give prospects a chance at least there is hope Domi is beyond his “Max” potential

Honestly, I feel like I should be the coach of the leafs this shit is driving me crazy every time I watch them play. I haven’t been impressed with their game at all, even though they stand where they are in the standings. I’m still not impressed by the way they’re playing I still don’t think they’re good enough and why the hell isn’t Domi playing with Matthews we’ve seen how he shined last year with Matthews. He is an amazing playmaker and I think he needs to be put back with Matthews
