The Wild take a BIG gamble with David Jiricek trade

The Minnesota Wild sent a huge trade package to the Columbus Blue Jackets in order to acquire young defenseman David Jiricek, but was the huge swing worth it for a prospect that has already shown major weaknesses at the NHL level?

  1. Happy with the haul for my CBJ he may well prove to be a monster, but it's going to take a handful of seasons for his skills and skating along with his positioning to catch up to with David's own self-perception of the player he believes himself to already be! Great work by Don!

  2. the wild's skating coach is top tier, players skating has always gotten better here since he's been here

  3. He’s 21 years old, I still remember people jumping up and down saying Hedman would never live up to his potential. Defenseman take time, the picks are almost worthless. Late round picks can be gotten for almost nothing, late first round picks aren’t nothing but in exchange for this guy’s potential I’m all in. This is a move that will hopefully have a massive impact down the road. Don’t get people’s reaction to this.

  4. The Wild have a bunch of high end prospects in their system that need a slot on the NHL club, what they didn't have is a high end right shot defenseman. A late first round pick in 25 isn't that high of a price, especially because it's considered a weak draft. Hunt is decent 3rd or 4th pair defenseman, and the rest of the picks are down the road and later rounds which seldom make impactful NHL players. Also, the Wild's D core needs to get younger, Spurg is 35, Bogo's 34 and Brodin is 31 (often hurt), so they needed youth in potential top 4 D men. On paper is looks like they gave up a lot, but those 2nd round and later picks really don't have a lot of value.

  5. As a Wild fan, we are happy with this trade, we only used 2 of our OWN picks(3rd rounder from Avs and 4th from leafs). So realistically we are only giving up a late first rounder, Daemon Hunt, and a 2nd rounder for a top 6 pick from 2 years ago. Not to mention he's a right shooting 6'4" defenseman… OH AND HE'S ONLY 21. He's going to take a step playing instead of Merrill I bet and playing on a different team with a better defense is only going to help him in the long run. A blue line of Faber, brodin, Buium, Jiricek, Middleton sounds wonderful. The reason CBJ didn't like him is because they think he can't skate well, and you know who has one of the best skating coaches in the league? The Minnesota Wild with Andy Ness

  6. These guys have zero clue about the Wild or the position that they're in. We need bottom pair defensive depth, thats it, and we only need that because of Brodins injury which isnt serious. We are stacked and probably the best positioned team for present and future success in all of hockey. Billy G needed a bottom pair defencemen so he looked around and he didnt just get some washed free agent or unproven nobody he got one of the top nhl defensive prospects. The possible long term value for the wild in this trade could be insane. Anyways for the wild this actually kinda felt like a no risk all reward situation.

  7. "Half cooked idea" yeah I'm sure your 6 minutes of analysis trumps their allegedly 3 minutes of analysis. Wild office seems know what they're doing considering where they are right now
