  1. As a Devil's fan, I never thought I would see the Blackwood Wedgewood tandem again. The fact that it's Colorado, my 3rd least favorite team kills me.

  2. Regarding next traded goalie, I think John Gibson to the Canes could be a possibility.

  3. I can't say I understand this trade for the Sharks at all. Blackwood was the perfect transitional goalie for us. Kept us in games so the kids could confidently experiment and sheltered Asky from the dumpster fire. And for what? A bottom-6 guy to go with our dozens of bottom-6 guys? A 2nd in a couple years that'll likely be closer to a 3rd? Cool, totally worth throwing Asky to the wolves and risking his and the rest of the team's confidence.

  4. Be interesting to look 5 years ahead in the crystal ball and see where teams like the sharks, ducks, and blackhawks wind up. I mean you could add a few other rebuilding teams to that list but I can’t help but feel like some struggling teams will still be struggling.

  5. Yeah. AVS are Not sitting around hoping to get to the playoffs with Gorgi.
    Blackwood is a fine goalie.
Back to the woods to win a Stanley cup.

  6. 0:26 When you said Blackwood was 6-9-3 I thought you were about to say he's 6'9" and I was amazed that I didn't know that before 😅

  7. I think this is terrible idea. Avs are banking on Nabokov to save them next season. Georgiev is fine enough if you play properly infront of him, but the team can never start games properly. coaching is the real issue. blackwood wont save this team.

  8. The aves straight up moneyballed it. They needed to replace number 40 so they got 41 and 39 LMFAO “Recreate him in the aggregate” 😂

  9. Help me out guys:
Didnt wedgewood and blackwood play together in the past?
Goalie carousel has me scratching my head but i feel like this has haopened b4? Maybe not idk. Either way liking this trade, think both teams got a good deal here. Going to miss Kovy, but sharks fans i think will love him. Go Avs!

  10. The only reason they traded Blackwood was that he was stealing too many games for San Jose…too bad because he was building chemistry and mentoring a lot of the younger guys….

  11. the avs had the most goalie wins last season more in spite of georgie than because of him. not that it's entirely his fault because they rode him way too hard and never had a good backup.

most fans didnt even want him to start in the playoffs, doubly so after the first game, but he turned it around big time and there was hope going into this season. I think that's the main reason the management for the avs didn't make any moves in the off season.

as we all have seen this year he just hasn't been able to get it going. im glad the avs finally made some moves but also nervous about giving up juice and kovi.

i also wouldn't be surprised to see georgie turn it around with less pressure in sj.

  12. i just picked up Blackwood for my Fantasy team. Goal support and maybe he can keep up a 920 save percentage. .940 or better 3 of the last 4 games. Haha, now this is going to be interesting, assuming the Sharks actually play Georgies…oh boy. giving up 5 goals a game per period.

  13. I'm wondering if the avs platoon the goalies and go 1A and 1B or if there's a definitive starter and which one.

  14. At least I'll feel slightly better watching the Kings get goalied by Blackwood on the Avs, than I have felt watching them get goalied by Blackwood on the Sharks.

  15. Finally. An athletic tandem that can easily clear 6 ft without having to stand on their tippy toes

  16. Sharks fan, here. I hate this trade.

It makes sense to deal Blackwood now, while his value is high. It makes no sense to do so and take a goalie — especially a bad and more expensive one, like Georgiev — back the other direction when you have Askarov waiting in the wings. With this trade GMMG made the Sharks worse at the goaltending position, did nothing to fix the personnel logjam, and gave up about half a million dollars in cap flexibility (which might be used down the stretch to take on bad contracts in exchange for futures).

And "worse" doesn't really cover it. Georgiev's .875 SV% is to some extent masked by virtue of him playing behind one of the better defensive teams in the league. Now he's going to be playing behind a mediocre, rebuilding Sharks team that just gave up 55 shots on net to the Panthers. His numbers are almost certain to regress even further. It's highly optimistic to imagine that you're going to be able to find another buyer for him, who's willing to give up any real value.

Kovalenko is an interesting piece, but his upside over Smith and a second-round pick two draft years from now don't even begin to compensate for just how disastrously bad a pickup Georgiev is.

  17. Having watched Vanacek get shelled the other night against the Bolts, Blackwood got shelled a little less in relief.
Don't know about this. I guess it's good for the Sharks since they get some picks and obviously Askarov is the future in net.
Hopefully a change of scenery for Georgiev might fix his game. He has the opportunity to raise his capital and move on from the Sharks at the deadline, perhaps providing more picks for SJ.

  18. So are the avs just becoming the 2022 New Jersey devils? Don’t tell me we bring Graves back soon.
