You can't expect to get top HS kids when your lead recruiters are young coaches that are learning how to coach. They are going up against programs whose coaches have 20 to 30 yrs doing this and know every trick in the book. They have proven they simply can not close and have no chance against these programs. Also when you use the Gonzaga model of just picking 3 or 4 guys you prioritize to make the offer special doesn't work in the Power 4 conferences. When we lose top guys we then pivot to the next guys but since we are late contacting them they have no interest. Khamenia is a perfect example. His agent said he felt like he was a plan B or plan C. When you coached a guy in USA basketball and then you start recruiting him cause others guys fell thru that's not a good look. You need to get a coach or coaches who will get in the trenches and close. Miller was great at that. He was relentless and was a great closer. He didn't make any of the guys better but he sure as hell got the guys he needed to get. The reason why the team is down is lack of good recruiting. All the euros were misses. Boswell was a miss. Anderson a miss. When one of your recruiters is partial to the Phoenix players that is a problem. The player evaluation has been awful. Now we are devoid of talent outside Caleb and Jayden. KJ is no better he has actually regressed. Not sure why we are not recruiting high basketball IQ players. Tommy did great w Seans guys but ever since that every year has been worse and worse . Everybody ignores that because of the first 3 years but if u look close the talent has wained and they keep saying guys will get better and they believe in them and so here we are. Other programs would have cut bait with Veersaar, and Martinez. The fact that they chose to take Dell Oreo over Sanon was a huge blunder. Its decisions like this that put us where we are now.
There will be no “discussion” around Tommy Lloyds recruiting, Koa Peat or not.
Disagree with this entire video. Luke way off per usual. Total upside down world. Myopic view of the college basketball landscape. If NONE of these kids commit here, I wouldn’t use that to suggest Tommy can’t recruit. He’s been recruiting top tier talent for 10+ years. Sure Tommy doesn’t give a shit what Luke’s opinion is.
I still have memories from when Gilbert Arenas and Jason Gardner both grabbed their crotches in front of a bunch of us fans waiting to get into Mac court. Arizona did lose that game, fortunately.
