Penguins trade Lars Eller, who could be next?

Kyle Dubas wasn’t kidding when he said everyone is on the table, trading Lars Eller to the Washington Capitals for two draft picks. Hunter and Patrick discuss the trade and the return as well as what it means for this team moving forward. They also talk about how this shows that Dubas is very serious about this retooling on-the-fly plan. Next, they speculate about who else could now get moved off of the Penguins’ roster if their woes continue along with how this could actually be part of a longer-term plan. Finally, there is still a game to be played tonight and they get you set for Penguins-Red Wings at PPG Paints Arena.

  1. The only way Eller wasn't getting traded this year, was being a solid contender. So holding him in the position they are in, doesn't make a difference. Why? Why is there a thought of trading the under 30 pieces? Gryz? Gone! How have they not resigned Petterson, trading should not be an option. The Pens are in bad contract hell

  2. Another great example is Sam Presti the GM of the OKC Thunder, stockpiling tons of picks that are paying off making them a contender

  3. I can see the players that care for this team ending up doing just the opposite. No one will care anymore. Geno won’t care. Who knows about Crosby. I can’t believe…why Ellar😢

  4. What if this 5-year rebuild goes ahead, GM Kyle Dubas could miss the playoffs six consecutive seasons.

  5. This is kind of off topic but I was just wondering what people thought, sometimes I hear the media talking about Letang being a future Hall of famer and honestly I don't at all… A Hall of fame defenseman wouldn't make all those mental mistakes over and over and over again… Honestly I think the last year and a half he's been pure crap… I would love it if they could find a way to trade him

  6. good thing you put that link to taylors article in the description, god forbid you steal her clicks!!!!

  7. Rakell can be a valuable piece next season and beyond, including if we need a more physical approach. I'll die on this hill. He's good all around and his salary is a good match with his skill. I agree on Bunting, Petterson, and others.

  8. True story I drove my whole family from N Carolina to watch the pens get blown out against the Stars! 😳 Tough to watch them.

  9. Penguins fans are delusional on what this course capable of. Including Crosby. He's not close to being the league's best center anymore. He's an average at best 1C. This is a rebuild not a retool.

  10. I'd love to see Dubas make several more moves so that we see Broz, McGroarty, and some of the other young guys who performed well in camp. They seemed much more capable of playing Sully's system than the guys they kept on the NHL roster to break camp.
Currently, Malkin, Crosby, and Rakell are the only top six players in the team's top ten scorers.

  11. I'd think that Pettersson will be the first defenseman moved, based on his past and his contract status.
I don't see a rush to trade for any of the others…maybe St. Ivany since he's been the best defenseman on the team, this season, with Karlsson being second. Graves and Pettersson are just obstacles the opposition can easily skate around and score. Gryz and Letang are usually not even in position to make a play on defense.

  12. Waiting for the trade deadline to make moves, is far too late…unless you've already fired Sully.

In my opinion, they need to move Pettersson, Gryz, and Graves, to acquire three solid "stay at home" defensemen. Or, call up Pickering and a few others, put them into that role, to play defense, but "watch and learn" the offensive side of it.

  13. I have no idea how I missed Locked on Pens yesterday. I guess I was busy watching all other videos and commenting. Good show guys.
