It’s funny you said it we can win with an average goalie fix the defense let him walk no you get rid of a bad contract and immediately sign another
You say we rely on Igor so much quick has been better by a long shot with the same defense
Being the best in the playoffs hasn’t won us a cup so what does that matter
I love igor , really do never wanted him to walk but boy oh boy i cant shake the feeling this is going to age horribly. If we win a cup all is well but i really hate long term tendy contracts , but im sure well end up buying him out like hank.
Which means : more bodies are out the door 🚪.

We resolved two big issues. We need to move Kakko, Kreider, Lindgren and bring in some shutdown defense and forwards who have no problem getting physical on the boards. We should do preemptive strikes in the trade market now before the March madness.

One moment there is delight at offloading the Captain, Trouba, and his massive salary/cap hit; wondering why they ever gave a long term costly contract when players then decline…
But then they do – – – THIS – – – with Igor.
Yeah he's won the Vezina, and has kept the team in games (far too often)… but his stats this year aren't good and last year had to be pulled for a few weeks.
So – – – what if his play continues to decline…steeply and quickly?
They looked really good against the Pens last night. They were forechecking well and attacking the net, and their D was ok. Smith in particular was really working and grinding for his goal. The Defense wasn't excellent, but it was a marked improvement from the last couple of weeks. Hopefully the start of a turn around

They were talking on Overdrive how Goalies have been traditionally undervalued in the NHL & how that is going to change. Goalies can play a lot longer, how old is Quick. Gump Worsely let in tons of goals in the 50s behind a lousy D. He was traded to Montreal & won 2 Vezinas. Same happened to Mike Richter, who played behind some of the worst D in history for a while. I'm fine with 11.5, although I hate any contract more than 5 years. But long tern no trade contracts seem to be in vogue. Igor is a keeper.
i'm gonna be honest – i dont like this and i think this contract is going to absolutely wreck us for years. i just dont trust this dude and think he has a strange narrative thats not commensurate with what he actually provides. definition of 'good but not great' IMO – even you fall into this trap calling him elite and then citing borderline revisionist history wrt his playoff performances.. he doesnt actually come through in big spots, and he's wildly inconsistent.. idk man, this isnt it IMO
Igor is the most important Ranger this team will pay for the next decade. He has single handedly won games that the Rangers should have lost. The Rangers defense has been invisible since this guy put a jersey on for them. Goalies win championships. Very few teams have won a Stanley Cup with a mediocre goalie. Hopefully, Quick ( HOF) will teach the Rangers what the best goalie in the league can do for an average team.
Great video. Great signing. With hopeful improvements with teams in front of Igor. He will not face as many shots. No goalie can fully stop 40 shots night in and night out.
The 1-2 million the Rangers might have saved is not going to make nearly as much difference than if he bolted to another team for more money. It had to be done. 11.5M is totally fair. The only way out of it would be if the Rangers had another very good goalie in the pipeline.
