A TRADE Montreal Canadiens Should Consider…

The Montreal Canadiens have four pending UFA’s at the end of this season. Jake Evans, David Savard, Joel Armia and Christian Dvorak. How do we think Habs GM, Kent Hughes should go about this? How much would Evans get?

  1. Bring back Evans around 2 mill and Armia at 1-1.2 mill a year. Trade Savard and Dvorack if u still can. Pick are great but we got lots of them and might be time to trade a few for better younger vet to replace Savard and Dvo.

  2. Talking about Evan’s getting $20m dollar contract is absolutely insane!!

I like the kid but he’s a 3-4th line player that offers little offence and zero physicality.

Trade him while his value is at its peak!

  3. Jake Evans is a Swiss Army knife and would be hard to find. When I look at those great Tampa teams, they were loaded with players like him.

  4. You dont trade players like Evans. Yes Owen Beck could be an even better Jake Evans style player however until Beck shows us at a NHL game after game, I say you sign Evans and play him. Trading him 3 yrs from now is ok. Players like Evans are a wanted assest and the Habs will have no problem trading him for value then

  5. Jake Evans is turning into Phillip Danault Sign him at 2.5 for 3 or 4 years . he will always be valuable as a defensive force.

  6. Re Evans: Specialized player evaluation sites AFP Analytics and Evolving-Hockey were predicting a $3M AAV extension, 3-4 year term. That was before the start of the current season. He's not going to accept a short term, $2M AAV team friendly deal to be a placeholder for Beck or Kapanen. This is most likely his last chance to secure his future. Defensive specialist winger Yakov Trenin got 4x$3.5M last summer. Given that Evans is a centre with better offensive stats than Trenin, a $4M AAV might not be out of the question. Not going to blame him one bit for testing the market.

  7. Evans is a good player. You can’t make mistake of falling in love with your own player. He a fourth liner already . Owen Beck can easily take that role for much less for next 4 years. There’s no need to make another Deharnais mistake in my mind Trade him. Get value for him

  8. The future

    Evans – Beck
    Armia- Demidov
    Dvorak- Roy
    Savard-Maillioux
    Matheson- Reinbacher

Or something to the affect. Then go find another quality center with all the pics

  9. I think if we had Centermen that were better at taking faceoffs it would be a little bit easier to let go of the depth Centers. Having to start Dvorak in overtime to take the draw and then quickly head off is really strange.

  10. Good discussion. I am 100% on board with Sean Campbell….He will walk and he will be even more, than what he is on another team. Just like Arturi Lekinen. He is gone, but would of been really good, but if signed a while back and signed at a more affordable rate. So, yes get him signed now….

  11. Armia and Evans are keepers
Watch Armia light it up with Laine on this team
Finn connection, keep Laine happy, keep Army. Plus Army is a beast on PK Anderson too

  12. First, find out how much he might ask for and term. Second , centres who win face offs are valuable, to a certain point.
Thirdly….how long do we wait for Dach and Newhook to flourish? You know Evans and with Laine around, he should replace Dach.

  13. The Habs should extend his contract or get him a new contract he's a keeper he's a beast in PPK n at face offs

  14. For next year, keep Evans, trade / release everyone else (Dvorak, Armia, Savard, Pezzetta, Primeau). Pick up a quality offensive center as an alternate to Dach and for depth. Bring some grit up from Laval Tuch or Xhekaj. Give Beck a shot, he looks ready.

    Suzy – Slaf – Caufield
    Dach – Laine – Demidov
    Evans – Gallagher – Anderson
    Beck – Tuch – Heineman

    Hutson – Guhle
    Mailloux – Matheson
    Xhekaj – Struble/Reinbacher

    Monty – Dobes

  15. I’d keep him as a third line centre behind Suzuki and Hage. Either Beck or Kapanen can come in as your fourth.

  16. Newhook , barron and this years 1st to ottawa for Norris and carter yakemchuck …imagine 2 yrs from now mailoux reinbacher and yakemchuck as our right side paired with guhle hutson and xhejai

  17. Evans and Savard NEED to stay in Montreal. Good veterans are a must to have to help younger ones become true pros. Can't keep trading them especially when kids look up to these guys. Oh yeah a 57% face off guy is a no brainer what you do in his case. Start talking to his agent A.S.A.P. see what he wants first and work from there between offer and asking price.

  18. they cant replace veterens with young guys until theyre ready—-most these young guys are not ready
