Y'all the Trouba trade has FINALLY happened! What are YOUR thoughts on this mega deal with both NY and Anaheim? And who do YOU think got the win out of this deal? The Rangers OR Ducks? Let me know!
I feel like this is a lose/lose trade neither team has gained. Trouba more like trouble and Vaaka is not a great defender but ok enough to play in the NHL but more suited for AHL hockey

How is it a steal for the Rangers when they got nothing ?
There are fines for not spending a certain percentage of your cap money. Ducks just push themselves a hair over that line, so a solid defensemen, avoid fines for underspending, not a great move for the future but should be a solid add for Ducks for 2-3 more seasons.
He'll be dealt again this season
NYR have always spent and aggressive
Always in top UFA maybe they take a run at Rantanen,Ehlers,Marner.
They obviously are wanting changes
Maybe dmen like RasmusAnderson,Sanheim,can Edmonton pay or match a offer sheet to Bouchard he currently only makes 3.9m and in for raise.
Guys I can see rangers still trading
Kreider,Kakko,Miller,maybe Zabinijad but up to him,+ prospects like AdamSykora,Othmann,Mancini,+picks.

Trouba is not a defensive defenseman. He was traded to the Rangers to be their #1 defenseman & run the offense, but emergence of DeAngelo & Adam Fox relegated Trouba to the 2nd pairing. Of course Deangelo couldn't stick with the team and Fox won Norris in his 2nd year, and Trouba was getting paid like a #1 D.
His offensive skill diminished and he gets caught out of position too often to be considered a solid D
As a Ranger fan and a long time defender of Trouba, I’m a bit torn. They definitely had to move him, the organization had clearly soured on him. He’s extremely physical, sacrifices the body, and keeps the other team’s head on a swivel when entering the zone. But at the same time, his play last season and this season has been abysmal. Very poor in a lot of areas (moving the puck in the defensive zone and defending the rush the biggest two) and has almost zero offensive upside to his game. Yes, he’s the captain and yes he was an identity guy for the team, but at the end of the day, he’s a massive liability both on the balance sheet and on the ice. My only worry is what this does to the morale
of the locker room moving forward.

Classic Drury, great with trades, terrible with signings.
To be able to dump 8 million off your cap without paying anything in today’s environment has to be considered a steal. Plus they even got a couple assets.

I believe rangers going for a under 30 star with long term contract. Maybe someone from Ottawa, Detroit or Bruins
Let's not forget it, veterancy is like gold for young team like San Jose, Anaheim or Montreal
One thing not talked about for this trade is the impact it might have on the player’s around the league (UFAs) perception of Rangers management. NY first waived Goodrow in the offseason to work around his NTC and now just traded their captain. Paraphrasing here, but Trouba essentially said that NY management threatened him to waive his NTC or he’d be put on waivers. If they’re willing to trade their captain, is anyone really safe in NY? UFAs might be more hesitant to sign in NY if it means they might be disrespected in the future with these kinds of trades.
